This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. [Rant] Sex Brothel Prostitute Naked Art Boobies Penis Vagina RPG

I just want to state for the record that I find all these threads on TBP about sex, brothels, prostitutes, naked art, boobies, penis, vaginas, misogyny, and the like to be fucking ridiculous. Not just silly. Not just useless. Fucking beyond ridiculous.

I appreciate there are people who don't want to deal with these subjects in RPGs. Or in real life. Fine. But what if I do? I'm not a fucking villain because there may be a brothel in my city or a prostitute NPC or because two PCs have a relationship or a race of ugly horrible monsters rape women to breed chaos creatures to overthrow the world (didn't invent that one either, for the record).

Being psychoanalyzed as to why I put those things in my game is fucking offensive. I put stuff in my game because I WANT it in there you naïve pencil-dicked fuck-tard. It's not a fucking mystery. I. Put. It. In. There. I am not ashamed of liking naked people and sex and prostitutes in my games. It's part of life, it comes up in all kinds of art, stories, movies, TV; and I'm not going to ban subjects in my game because a bunch of self-righteous ass fucks on an internet forum tell me to.

I like gritty alternative pulpy in your face sexy things. Movies, porn, books, TV. I like boobs. I like naked art. I like sex. There is a LONG history of some bad shit regarding humanity and sex. I didn't fucking start it. I didn't invent the bad stuff. I don't perpetrate bad stuff on other people. I am also not going to be placed in the corner with the tall pointy "monster pervert boobie-toucher" hat. People have sex. Naked people happen. So does marriage, children, kidnapping, disease, murder, robbery, graduation, weather, baked goods and fucking pizza.

I am so fucking tired of reading the "Why are men boobie-humping gorillas?!?!?!" bullshit I could fucking gag. I am not a rapist, or a misogynist, nor a child molester, nor a violent criminal and I hardly imagine HAVING a penis somehow qualifies me for annual criminal background checks and mandatory psycho therapy sessions. Fuck you. I am quite happy with my penis and I don't need you telling me what I can think about, write about, or put in my games.

This is for all you self-deprecating whiney near-do-wells who think it's ok to ram your holier-than-thou delusions of grandeur up my ass – Go fuck yourself. You can hide behind the bullshit veneer of political correct nonsense on the TBP to push your agendas but some of us will keep on loving the girl boobie sex prostitute brothel penis vagina RPG stuff until we die. Assholes.

I had not ever considered somebody would assume there was a city anywhere real or imagined without prostitution. Ah well, the higher planes maybe.

Let's keep in mind that the OP of the dumb brothel thread was able to point to - what, 2?  3? actual instances of "brothels" in his entire RPG experience.  (Granted, he'd been away for a minute, and there are actually more.  But still.)  Then the usual suspects started populating these one-line brothels with what they imagine red-blooded mans must drool over, and the hatetrain was a-rollin'.  Of course, once the tide started turning against the moral crusaders (since the data really isn't there, and overall the people who aren't afraid of what's in their pants were smarter and better educated) Ettin dutifully shut it down.

(Also, POSR actually looked at the data after two pages and decided that maybe he'd overreacted.  These things happen.)

Oh, that thread. I retired from reading it at midnight. Let's see what they have come up with since. :)

[edit]Fairly disappointing. That special combination of PC and puritanism never gets old, though.[/edit]

I was thinking about this in that other thread here when the satirical Mongoose books on sex were deemed puerile.

So what if they are puerile? Lots of things are puerile. Howard Stern has made a career out of it. The whole concept of a "sports bar" usually involves having waitresses with large breasts in tight clothing. Hollywood is still full of it as well. Why can't RPGs? (and I'll say it goes both ways, there are a number of rather puerile commercials on TV selling vibrators for women)

We used to be so uptight about things because they were "immoral". Now we're uptight about the same things because they are politically incorrect.

Just tonight on another board (albeit one similar to TPB in terms of values) someone mentioned the movie Wizards. He liked it, except for the "gender dynamics"

Gender dynamics? Do people really think about things like that when watching a movie?

These two sentiments come from the same origin, and have the same tendency of confusing genuine social evil (like human trafficking, which is unfortunately a large part of European prostitution) with the superficial (like make-believe prostitution in a make-believe game). They just use slightly different rhetoric to justify themselves.

I co-sign booby-humping those naughty gorillas, or at least your right to buy RPG books with nipples.
And I get laid a lot! With women! And I'm a man! The horror.

There must be an American Pie movie I missed where they fucked pizza.

Anyhoo, I think I can actually sell "Monster Pervert Booby-Toucher" conical princess hats around here. It'd go with the already extant "Package Inspector" t-shirts and camisoles. I'm just going to need a lot more organza...

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

To the OP - Word!

I like reading about rpgs on TBP, you get a lot of interesting news on there. But when it comes to the sexism/rape/women/what-have-you issues, rpg.net is just crazy. They have no perspective....like, at all.

And it is not helped that moderate voices get screamed down in ways like "if you do not agree with us, you are a sexist/raper/women-hater/etc. as well" . It's ridiculous.
And the moderation is very un-objective (is that a word?), which doesn't help either.
For instance, if trechriron had posted his OP in the thread over on rpg.net (or did you? I was not in the mood to read it, because i knew how it would go), i'm sure he would have been banned asap

Why is that, btw?  I'm guessing too many countries in too small an area, 30 minutes drive, you're across a border and need to fill out a phonebook-sized packet of forms to look for the person in another country?

The main reasons are widespread poverty, the disintegration of the state and mafias on the post-socialist peripheries, and the enormous wage differentials which bring in premium money (mostly) in Western Europe. A lot of young women are enticed to the trade from Ukraine, Bulgaria, parts of Eastern Hungary and Romania, and many of them are essentially kept captive in target countries without papers, most of their pay, or contact to the otherside world. Kidnappings are less common (in fact, families selling their children is probably more common), but they also occur.

But yes, the cross-border nature of the crime plays a role; first, because there is no genuine "federal" police force to deal with international trafficking rings, only cooperation among national agencies (which is slower, complicated and less efficient); and second, because it is an 'out of sight, out of mind' issue. The victims are far away from their home, where the police of their state is powerless to act, while authorities in the west often take the view that whatever bad stuff happens is not happening to 'their' citizens, i.e. first-class Europeans. They could find a lot of ugly stuff if they looked, and sometimes they do, but very often, they don't.

For this reason, while I am not morally opposed to prostitution, I support either regulating it to hell and back (with mandatory unionisation, cutting out the middlemen, constant police oversight, etc.) on practical grounds, or banning it outright by criminalising the customers.

But this is only a real world topic, which is way less important than not offending someone on an internet forum.

When I'm constructing medieval-ish (or later) fantasy cities for my campaigns, there are brothels. The PCs haven't usually partaken, but on the one occasion where some did, there was a whole other non-sexual reason they went to the place. (Long story -- pretty damn funny, really.)

I'm a woman, a liberal, and a feminist. When I create game worlds, my goal is to come up with something believable and interesting for my players. I don't sanitize elements that some might find controversial. A person who's going to have a huge fit over brothels or skimpy clothes (for men or women) or whatever is probably not going to be happy in my gaming group, or vice versa -- for more reasons than that. The groups I game with tend to sort political stuff out in other arenas rather than bringing agendas to the gaming table.

One peeve (out of several) I have about sexism/misogyny freakout threads is this:  people claiming that "women" or "all women" find such-and-such offensive or frightening. You don't speak for me. Given the conversations I've had with RL female friends on the subject, I doubt you speak for them, either, but you don't see me going around saying that "women" or "all women" are A-OK with it. You *can't* speak for all women, and if you want to talk offensive, your presuming to do so offends the hell out of me.
