She had no problem with the system at the time, though she later in life embraced capitalism. We talked a fair bit about her life before reunification.

There's a huge difference between fighting an enemy soldier in the field, and murdering entire populations of civilians.
My family on my father's side lived through the Korean war -- where tens of thousands of civilians were murdered by the communists, and also tens of thousands of civilians were murdered by anti-communists. Callously murdering communist civilians isn't some theoretical Internet position -- it's exactly what the South Korean government carried out. There are hundreds of mass graves through South Korea where the government dumped the bodies of elderly, women, and even children.
I can be opposed to the North Koreans while still also opposing these mass murders that you celebrate.

When a PTA and NAACP official, addressing a crowd of counter-protesters, uses violent rhetoric like "Let them die!", you should pay the fuck attention. She stepped over that line of being a crank on a message board, or simply speaking out, and went for incitement to violence.

Yes, and not only that. It is fundamentally counter to human nature. Because the system is deeply flawed, most people just try to get by through gaming the system. I know of very few things that can kill the human spirit of innovation and enterprise the way communism can. Maybe certain kinds of religious fundamentalism come pretty close, but it is quite remarkable, comparing iron curtain countries to others in Europe for instance (I have had friends on both sides in Germany, the Balkans etc.)

BTW, the course was not mandatory: if someone's parents disagreed they could simply withdraw their sons/daughters).
So we had this course. I learned many interesting things that I already knew and some that I didn't. Yes, they also talked about homosexuality and transgenderism in a frank, non-condemning, way. It was obvious that these two expert knew their job.
And the nuns of a Catholic school who ran the show didn't obfuscate anything - except for a final sermon about "You know what Jesus wants from you." Which was actually refreshing: if you mess up, when you die God will have an interesting chat with you, but it is not the job of your fellows to judge you. Amazing, uh?
So, topics ranging from homosexuality to CRT can be properly tackled - even by a Catholic school in the 1980s. But some people act like if the World started existing only from the moment they were born, and like if their thinking marks the very first time that someone tackled the matter ever. Chaos ensues.
The problem with communism was never that it "didn't work."
The problem with communism, as well as Critical Race Theory, Critical Theory, the "soft on crime because criminals are victims" approach, radical feminism, sexology (e.g. Kinsey), transexualism, etc. etc. is that it all always has and is working exactly the way it was all meant to work all along.

There's one situation in which communism does work, but when I invoke it the tankies get really pissed off. :D
Monasteries and convents are generally communist in practice. However, since they are groups bound together by a single higher ideal (glorification of God, natch), the communitards don't like it.
