SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Quote from: RPGPunditBecause Alberta hasn't done anything to EARN its getting massive amounts more incomes than any other province, Its just sheer luck.
...
That's not true.  It is actually very difficult to get oil out of the Albertan sands, and it is only profitable when the price of oil is high enough.  Getting that oil involves capital and labour.

Anyhow, if you think that natural resources should be a federal responsibility, then advocate changing the constitution to that effect (good luck!).  But simply because you think having Ottawa forcibly creating 'equality' is a good idea, that doesn't warrant ignoring the constitution.

Also, as I said before any Canadian (whether from Quebec, Nova Scotia, or the Yukon) can move to Alberta and take advantage of the economic boom there, just as they can move to Toronto if they want to take a high-paying Bay Street law firm position.

By your reasoning, the federal government should force Bay Street law firms to reposition themselves more 'equitably' throughout Canada.  Why should all the high-paying corporate law jobs be in Toronto?  Lets force some of them to set up shot in Saskatoon!

Finally, you seem to object to the idea of federalism itself.  The whole point of a federal system of government is to permit significant provincial/state autonomy within a single nation-state.  It seems that you would prefer simply abolishing the provinces altogether and running everything from Ottawa.  Ugh!

Quote from: RPGPundit... The only thing more dangerous than big government with a lot of power is small government with a lot of power...

Rubbish.

If you have ten different provincial governments -- some of which are corrupt, incompetent, or overly intrusive -- you, as a Canadian citizen, have the right to move to a different province.  People often vote with their feet in a federal country (e.g. the flight of skilled labour and capital from Montreal to Toronto in the late 1970s).

In contrast, if the central government is corrupt, incompetent, or overly intrusive, then you, as a Canadian citizen, have to suffer -- there is no place for you to go (unless you emigrate to another country, which is not a viable option for most people, and has its own risks.).

One of the great virtues of a federal system of government is that it disperses risk with respect to governmental abuse.

Spike

It has been pointed out a few times and places that the Pundit occasionally contradicts himself horribly.  His stance against Swine Games suffers when he talks about Superheros, his Anti-nanny state stance suffers when he tries to defend his favorite politico.

I suspect his core beliefs aren't so shiftable as that would make them seem, its more as if he has some pet ideas that he refuses to reassess that conflict with his beliefs, possibly ideas that were formed BEFORE he took up Punditry...
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.
