This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.
The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

While the right was talking about equality of opportunity and the dignity of work, the left had spent years building a dystopian hellscape of equality of poverty and the misery of deprivation. In the interest of ‘social justice’, self-proclaimed progressives crammed vulnerable minorities into brutalist housing projects, replaced genuine economic opportunity with a welfare cheque, blamed the ensuing disadvantage on ‘systemic racism’ and expected the victims of the whole perverse state of affairs to reward them at the ballot box. It was a strategy that worked for a while, until it didn’t

Insert joke about "reading the articles" here.
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

It deeply worries me that we're having to go to Penthouse for clear thinking on the problem.

Greetings!

Well, Trond, that article is spot on, my friend. Very tight and laser focused. I agree entirely. I find it so very sad that numerous well-educated and rational people, commentators, whether academics or laymen, often voice the same concerns and present the same analysis of the deep-rooted danger, and the intellectual and idealistic problems which got us to arrive where we are at, and yet, when such arguments and analysis are presented to more Liberal-minded people--such a presentation is met with deer-in-the-headlights looks, mushy, meaningless backpedaling and desperate blame-shifting--or hysterical "Reeing!" from enraged, brain-dead and shrieking Marxist zombies.

Some people occasionally talk about why we can't be rational, or why can't we reasonably discuss our differences and work on a workable solution? That seems increasingly impossible, because the Marxist-Left holds onto an nihilistic ideological view that permeates through every level of society that on every major social, economic, and political issue is deeply hostile, corrosive, and in opposition to the societal vision that everyone else has for the nation, the society, and the community. That being the case, there isn't any room or cause for "compromise". There isn't anything to meaningfully discuss.

That stark and harsh reality proceeds to narrow down our options.

I feel like all news is fake news now. It's impossible for me to determine who is telling the truth, or what is the right moral opinion to hold. Pretty much everybody will say something really stupid if you listen to them long enough, and that throws everything else they ever said into question.

Debra Soh said that some gynophilic transwomen are motivated by autogynophilia. Transphobe!

Vaush said that right-wingers should allow themselves to be lynched by left-wing mobs. Warmongering psychopath!

Then we have the whole Cuties bipartisan issue. If Cuties isn't exploitative because it has the moral message that "sexualizing girls is bad," then neither is L Shindo's Metamorphosis hentai because it has the moral message that "prostitution exploits and kills prostitutes." Having a moral message and being exploitative aren't mutually exclusive.

I wish an asteroid would hit the Earth and kill everyone. Humanity doesn't deserve to exist.

You mean the one inspired by Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis where the main character finds that they have turned into a giant bug for no apparent reason?

Debra Soh is a sex researcher who the left considers transphobic because she has reservations about transitioning minors. https://twitter.com/DrDebraSoh

Vaush is your typical left-tuber. https://twitter.com/VaushV

Metamorphosis is a hentai manga about a high school girl who is pulled into the hellish world of prostitution. https://allthetropes.fandom.com/wiki/Metamorphosis_(manga)

So, two Twitter posters and a hentai manga?

Yeah, I'd want an asteroid strike too if that was what I based my reality on.

(Plus, just from reading the synopsis of the hentai manga, I sincerely doubt that you have actually read it or researched it because you have way oversimplified the plot to the point where it is unrecognizeable. The hentai Metamorphosis is about a shy young girl who so wants friends and attention, that she enters into a lifestyle of sex and fashion to get it. The prostitution comes from needing money to buy more fashion accessories and the drug addiction is the result of trying to be cool and edgy for attention - so she tries heroin. There is also some subtext about her father raping her as a child and her mother blaming her for it - saying that she seduced her father into it. She dies of a heroin overdose pregnant and alone in a filthy bathroom. The manga is pretty much a grab-bag of downer crap thinly veiled in significance by idiots comparing it to Kafka's work of the same name even though the stories are completely different.)

Box whatever your doing please stop doing it.  Seriously your comparing a cartoon to real life exploitation of young little girls.  No one is harmed by a cartoon.  Seek professional help.

Though since you brought up Cuties.  Isn't it bullshit that they exploit little girls just so they can say exploiting little girls is bad?  Am I the only getting whiplash by this lack of logic and common sense?  What is the next Netflix movie?  Puppy murder to show how puppy murder is bad?

Fuck. I'm going to regret this. Here I go.

No, everyone on social media has said this. The Babylon Bee did a mock article on killing puppies to show killing puppies is bad. It's a terrible argument because the film wasn't about trying to convince people that exploiting girls is bad. The film assumes the audience is already on board with that idea.

But everyone laser focuses on this because some people tried to use this argument about the message of the film and just muddied the whole discussion.

So Jeff has no clue what's going on (Soh is one of the few writers on sex that has any sense, and no not just tweets), and both him and Snowman completely misinterpreted what Box was saying.  The point was that the hentai was considered offensive enough to be condemned by many, while Cuties, featuring real young girls, has been defended as high art. By the same people? Not sure. Yeah, I don't share his grimdark conclusion, but seriously it wasn't that difficult to understand.

I seem to recall you once arguing that California Redwoods generated more oxygen on Earth than algae, so I don't mind if you think I am clueless about someone who writes about sex.

The hentai is about destroying yourself in order to achieve your goals, which really is a theme that has been done before. Is it comparable to Cuties? Here, since neither the hentai or the Netflix show is in my realm of interest to read or watch, I'm going by the Roger Ebert article on it. I find it really hard to compare these two because in the hentai the main character understands what is going on with sexualizing herself to be popular while the characters in Cuties do not understand the sexualized nature of how they are dancing, they just know that it gets them attention. The self-conscious intent of the characters in these two pieces of media are what sets them apart. The Metamorphosis hentai has more in common with Pauline Reage's The Story of O than it does to Cuties.

Oh man, that is not only misleading, but pretty damn childish. "More oxygen on Earth" no man we were arguing the usefulness of growing algae vs planting redwoods, and I argued that terrestrial plants bind carbon for longer (redwoods being the most efficient land plants in this regard).

And the higher volume of algae means that more carbon is bound by that than redwoods.

Really, it isn't that difficult to understand.....
