SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Montevideo is Lovely

Montevideo is an awesome place to visit. The city has such character, and its wonderfully pleasant. There's no place in South America that's as friendly, safe, and quaint as Montevideo (plus you're just a ferry ride away from Buenos Aires, so you can kill two birds with one stone; Montevideo is cheaper though).  So if any of you loyal readers are thinking of taking a vacation this year (especially those of you up north who want to get away from the winter), strongly consider a trip to Uruguay.  You'll have a built in tour guide with yours truly, and there's lots of gaming to be had.

Anyways, today I took a leisurely walk down my neighbourhood (El Cordon) and then a quick cab ride to the old city (Ciudad Vieja), where I had some excellent muttar paneer at Malakas, then smoked my pipe and walked around the old city before settling into the Cafe Irazu for a smoke and an iced mocha.

One architect once commented that Montevideo is the "only ruined city to still be fully inhabited". I wouldn't go that far, but I would say that the rustic architecture is one of the things that gives this city so much charm. You won't find as much old-style charm in Buenos Aires, which made the mistake of modernizing the hell out of itself in the last decade. Through the strange fortunes of economic crisis, Montevideo didn't tear down all its old buildings and as such has a much more classic feel to it.

That, and the people, combine to make Montevideo a wonderfully unusual place to live. You see people as you walk down the street, sitting around chatting, taking leisurly strolls of their own. Today, one old man was walking through the streets of my neighbourhood playing a carnival beat on a drum, for no apparent reason. Then there are the street vendors, the hippies with their guitars, and the schoolgirls... ah, the schoolgirls. May Jeebus bless the pervert who invented the high school girl's uniform.

I'm glad that I read this thread - Montevideo does sound quite nice.
What's funny is that I originally read the title as "Montevideo is Lonely".
