This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.
The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

According to this article the November release for 5e from WoTC is addressing even more "racist" and "problematic" aspects of the game that only woke sjw types seem to see such as the titular character's lore as an evil mage being problematic because she's female and the racist notion that different races have different ability modifiers. I'm really starting to think they're going to kill D&D as we know it... What say you?

That's hilarious.

Tasha was the alias for Iggwilv, one of THE most dangerous, powerful, and (yes) evil sorceresses in Greyhawk. We're not talking 'I have bad publicity' i.e. FR's the Simbul. She's the mother of Iuz, for crying out loud.

But oh no, she's not REALLY evil. I mean, she consorts with fiends, but no, that's not a problem at all! She's just misunderstood!

And I hear the book is right up there with Skills & Powers as far as character creation goes.

Well, splitting 'race' and 'culture' is D&D catching up to where the rest of the hobby has been for about 30 or 40 years. My oldest encounter with it is the distinction of package deals in Fantasy Hero (4E), but I believe it may go all the way back to Runequest.

As for the rest, at the moment, it seems projection/wishful thinking on the part of the article writer. We'll have to see how the book turns out. Iuz was probably corrupted by his father's toxic masculinity. :) (Actually, Graz'zt is a pretty good example of a toxic kind of masculinity, so that may not be so farfetched.)

Good, they should go full woke when they finally release the 6th edition, but in the mean time they need to bend the knee and suck the woke penis even harder.

More room for small publishers/indie developers.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

Yes.  I have only one issue with this:  I hope no one confuses my desire to split race and culture with being as stupid as WotC is.

I did it with my humancentric totally not Conan game. You got savages, barbarians, civilized, decadent cultures of all the colors (or the tools to create them anyway.

Why isn't this in the gaming forum? It's at least related to gaming.

What say you?

Ignore their crap and run your campaign however you want.
If WOTC wants to make themselves irrelevant, that's their business decision.
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

Depending on how its presented in the actual material I can see it being a net positive.  If you don't want to run old-school and want to let your special butterflies in the group make their special butterfly then there's rules for that.

If the book is as good as Skills and Powers then I may have to buy it despite my boycott on WotC products.

Chances of that seem slim though.

EXCELLENT!!!

We're neck deep in the classic "we must destroy the village to save it" scenario. D&D in WotC's hands can't be saved, but it can be destroyed, all involved scattered to the winds and reborn in the future.

Considering what WotC has brought into the hobby as "new gamers", there's no loss if the WotC devotees wander off to destroy another hobby.

Unless it's your hobby that they wander in to.

Far better to crush them utterly, so that all hobbies are free from their evil.

For that to happen some companies need to go bankrupt so those executives will figure out that get woke, go broke is a very real concept.  That means WotC has to die.  I am okay with that as there is the OGL and with it the OSR.

No company should be considered "immortal", and no company is "too big to fail".

I'd like to see an ongoing D&D TTRPG  product line, but WoTC have proven to be poor stewards.

And Disney is showing signs of comprehending "get woke, go broke" and squelching the woke in their own company. Time will tell how serious they are, and if any other companies, like, say, Hasbro, follow their example.
