This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.
The message boards have been upgraded. Please log in to your existing account by clicking here. It will ask twice, so that it can properly update your password and login information. If it has trouble recognizing your password, click the 'Forgot your password?' link to reset it with a new password sent to your email address on file.
The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Ignore their crap and run your campaign however you want.
If WOTC wants to make themselves irrelevant, that's their business decision.

My mantra also...

Make the games you want to play. Sod everyone else... It's got nout' to do with them.

Well it's about time. Because I've been concerned about the feelings of all the Orcs who feel represented as a savage monolithic culture in D&D.

Wait... who are the Orcs representing in their minds again?

It's a bit weird because they think white hetro-sexual males are orcs but they think orcs are black people.

Why isn't this in the gaming forum? It's at least related to gaming.

Agreed. I totally missed this yesterday, cuz I generally don't check the politics forum. Only saw it today cuz I was done catching up with the threads I was interested in the main forum and remembered this forum existed.

On the actual topic I think that the idea of "lineages" or whatever they're gonna call it is stupid and wrongheaded for a variety of reasons. First of all, the idea that not every member of a race is the same and that some have different aptitudes than others is already covered by variable ability scores. You don't need to give characters extra points they can spend however they want (assuming that's the way they handle it), that's already achieved by using point-buy ability scores. The racial ability modifiers are supposed to cover the inborn tendencies of a race as an added bonus, not dictate what your ability scores should be. Second, further distinctive, snowflakey quirks and options beyond ability score modifiers are already covered by feats. You don't need to dismantle the entire concept of race (though, we all know that's precisely what these idiots' political agenda is) in order to represent the notion that someone people have different talents than others--that's called feats! They already have that in the game!

Granted, you could always add race-specific feats, like they did PF 2e, or variable options how they handled it in AD&D 2e's Players Options: Skills & Powers. But you don't need to get rid of races in order to represent how some individuals are different than others, that's already covered by the entire gamma of existing options, from  variable ability scores, being able to pick the class that you want, having different Backgrounds or choosing feats.

This whole thing is moronic pandering and bending over backwards to please political ideologues pushing their deranged nonsense into the hobby.

Is there a hidden blackface reference in orcs?

No, but the left's hatred of white hetero-sexual men is very much the kind of othering of your enemies that orcs represent.

Which is funny, because Orcs tend to be more civilized.

They will either present decent rules that can be widely used or they will blow it. Since the rules are optional and we have well over 5 editions of D&D, many OSR systems and lots more we can play, does it really matter?

I don't care if they give options that pander to people who get in a tizzy about the biological determinism of completely imaginary species.

It's all pretty meaningless anyway when the average Goliath is only 5% stronger than the average Halfling.

Just so long as they don't try and moralise along with it.

For that to happen some companies need to go bankrupt so those executives will figure out that get woke, go broke is a very real concept.  That means WotC has to die.  I am okay with that as there is the OGL and with it the OSR.

No company should be considered "immortal", and no company is "too big to fail".

I'd like to see an ongoing D&D TTRPG  product line, but WoTC have proven to be poor stewards.

And Disney is showing signs of comprehending "get woke, go broke" and squelching the woke in their own company. Time will tell how serious they are, and if any other companies, like, say, Hasbro, follow their example.

The twitter mob is going after Gina Carano, the actress that plays Cara Dune on the Mandalorian, for not putting pronouns in her twitter profile. She outright states that she won't bow to toxic bullies that make threats to get their way (she's received death threats over this) and the trans mob is calling for Disney to fire her and bring in a trans woman to replace her.

It's disgusting behaviour to demand compliance to woke idealism at the threat to your life and income. I despise sjws with every fibre of my being because they are the most hypocritical, intolerant, and bigoted people I have ever met.

I completely agree, we'll said.
