SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Looks like the Purple Place found another windmill to charge at.

Quote from: sureshot;1005966With rpg.net it's like watching Jekyl and Hyde in action. It went from being a decent place to hang out. To something like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It's fucked up imo. Eatching a forum devolve over time  instead of evolving. It's not pleasant to watch at least for me.

Yeah, it was actually a really decent place years ago. I remember people actually discussing something other than their own drama and Fate Core.

It's really a sad thing, like having an old friend run off to join a cult or something.

SP23

It was great from 2000-2007/8, then it started to radically transform into the shitshow it is now.

Seconded on all points. Especially the part about the cult. Same thing with the Paizo forums. Once they knew they could pander to the SJW for sales they went all in. Then it ended up biting them in the behind.

Again agreed. Is it just me or did many forums just change for the worse around that time imo. They noticed no one said anything and just went all wacko. By the time some of the more moderate posters actually took notice and tried to do something it was too late. The inmates not only ran the asylum those in charge not only gave them the keys then willingly joined them.

Actually, to those of use who were around earlier, RPG.net was already absolute shit by around 2003 or so. In the very early days, especially before Skotos bought it, it was pretty glorious.

Yeah, my best memories of it were when I was hopping between the new WotC D&D forums and RPG.net. It was mostly the same group of people, actually (edit: I mean same group of people posting on both boards.)  But there was discussion of D6, Traveller, and a some other goodies. My deal then was AD&D 2nd edition and there was some fun discussion without any SJW pledge requirements.

The change was really apparent to me around.. 2004? When the White Wolf people were made mods and would reprimand or ban anyone that didn't agree with them. That's what drove me out as a regular.

1. Welcome to Beldar and Bazhsw!!

Looking forward to more posts from both of you.

Just remember that your favorite game sucks, unless its also my favorite game, but in that case, you're playing it wrong!

2. Has anyone been to this North Texas RPG Con?

It is an OSR con with lots of TSR/OSR guests
http://ntrpgcon.com

3. RPG.net's white knight crew are human garbage. It must be impossible for these idiot children to imagine that women and minorities of all flavors go about their lives, having good and bad days, making their own choices and decisions, all without the need for "goodthink policies".

4. If I was trying to re-elect Trump in 2020, I'd do everything I could to amplify the SJW fuck nuts.

Thank you for the welcome, but I certainly hope your favorite games are the same as mine. Otherwise, I will not value your personal opinion as much as I value my own. That'll teach ya.

Regarding your point number 3: That is the most baffling part of all of this to me.  Legal equality (which I certainly agree with) is one thing, but further "protected status" is indicating that they believe that women and minorities are weak, unequal, and in need of their oh so wise guidance. I can tell you that is likely insulting to some of tough as hell women I know. I am very close to somebody that was sexually harrased at her place of work and she seems like she can make her own decisions regarding convention attendance on her own.

I recommend not watching it - we all know what they're like, why not ignore them? :)

I agree about the timeline, basically the first Obama term 2008-2012 saw a major decline across many places, with a major peak in 2012. (But I agree rpgnet was already bad by 2004 - still this didn't stop them getting much worse later).

I doubt Paizo's SJW pandering helps their sales. It was strongly driven by Jessica Price (a minor Paizo employee, hardcore SJW, witchfinder-general) and a small coterie of her followers. Most Pathfinder players who buy a lot of books are apolitical gearhead mech-piloter types, they just want to build Teh Ultimate PC with umpteen splatbooks. They don't care about SJW.

I see ENW is pushing the same line - http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?596725-North-Texas-RPG-Convention-Refuses-To-Listen-To-Harassment-Concerns - Morrus has been doing a good job turning ENW into RPGnet over the past few years.

Edit: To the credit of ENW's members, there has been considerable pushback on this.

Voros

People here sure are obsessed with the fools over there. Why don't you try posting sbout RPGs once in a while instead of constantly axe-grinding about politics?

Dumarest

I kind of wonder what the point of visiting that site is when you already know what they're like as they are nothing if not predictable. Is it to be offended that they're offended?

Exactly, all part of the outrage culture the net seems to thrive on. And do we really need two threads about this internet drama?

They try to pass themselves off as some kind of bastion of morality for rpgers in general. Instead coming off as  hypocrites in the purest form. So why not show others here and elsewhere. Second the thread title is very clear. No one is forcing anyone to read this thread.

Lastly it's a duplicate thread and with one being in Pundits forum. I asked him to delete this one.

saskganesh

It's an easy target as the organiser sounds pretty tone deaf to concerns. He's pretty shitty at PR.
