I'm (perhaps morbidly) curious how far the social pendulum will swing this regard. And what the push back will be. Will the US develop something like Japan's Herbivore Men or will more men in power take up positions like Mike Pence and not meet with women under their influence alone (in spite of the contempt shown for that notion)? Or will things even out and 'sentiments' come to reality?
I also wonder that as more women gain similar positions will we see more of them abusing power, if so will it be in the same manner and will their be as much out cry? It'll be interesting to see or is some innate aspect of male and/or female psychology coming into play? Some Women have certainly abused power (I remember reading about females that were accused of sexual harassment, but I can't recall any details so it may just be conflations but there have been female pedophiles) and many men do not.
I've have personal knowledge of 4 alleged harassment situations over my working life, one was a female supervisor who harassed everybody including her supervisors, one a male supervisor who was harassing a female employee. Both of these were non-sexual, essentially bullying.
Two were male on male sexual harassment incidents, mostly consisting of repeated suggestive comments up to aggressive come ons. One did ultimately include the showing of his genitals. I'll give you one guess as to which went anywhere... It wasn't the guy who whipped out his junk.
I suspect women in power are covered up just as well as the men. While the reasons may differ men have just as much reason to keep quiet as women do. As you mention until fairly recently there was a big double standard in the reaction to under age sexual encounters with an older male being a predator, and a younger male being a lucky dude.
I find the Black Hat Matt situation interesting. In theory perhaps behind the scenes there was more evidence presented, but considering the way they handle other issues I rather doubt it.
At least on a surface level an anonymous and brand new poster made a serious allegation against a mod, and the whole board began wetting itself over showing how sensitive they are. Maybe what was alleged happened in which case fuck him, but there is also a part of me that wonders how hard would it be for somebody with a grudge to get just enough info to concoct a plausible story, make a sock puppet account and exact vengeance on a poster or mod they don't like. Kind of a scary thought, particularly for someone that has a public identity.
To be honest there was a poster over there known to many here (now banned) that I avoided as much as possible as I had a fear that (she)* seemed unstable and might try and take things off board. I've never before or since had that fear of a poster on any website I've been on over the years.
* I was never convinced that the individual was what she said she was, I actually suspected she might be a sock puppet of one of the mods who used the account to troll other posters.
