Let's see, one day into this new era of normalcy, we've had a speech that called for unity while taking shots at the other side,
Biden calls out racism, nativism, political extremism, white supremacy and domestic terrorism, so of course Republicans immediately wail that he's attacking
them. Maybe the solution is not to identify with those forces?
peaceful protests in Seattle and Portland where leftist with Molotovs and crowbars unseditiously attacked federal buildings,
Democrats in general and Joe Biden in particular have condemned violent protests, repeatedly; Republicans incited such. It's no accident that the protesters described carried anti-Biden signs while the insurrectionists on January 6th considered themselves to be following Donald Trump's orders and hoped for pardons from him.
Senate Democrats upholding norms by refusing to agree to uphold the long-standing norm of the filibuster
The Constitution calls for simple majority votes with few exceptions (of which the filibuster is not one); Alexander Hamilton wrote "But this is not all: what at first sight may seem a remedy, is, in reality, a poison. To give a minority a negative upon the majority (which is always the case where more than a majority is requisite to a decision), is, in its tendency, to subject the sense of the greater number to that of the lesser." I can see why it appeals to Republicans, who tried to ignore the majority of voters last fall and have previously demonstrated that their only interest with a Democratic president is to obstruct, but it's not like they respected it when they controlled the Senate.
, and now Peter Robb has been fired.
Extremist, appointed by an incompetent President who incited insurrection, is fired by new administration; a good move. I'm more interested in Michael Ellis, NSA general counsel - another extremist who was apparently improperly placed in a civil service position over more qualified candidates. Ellis is now on administrative leave while the circumstances are investigated.
No surprise that Pat is channeling so many right wing talking points.
