Show me where leftist foolishness (as opposed to conservative foolishness) has been punished with the full support and imprimatur of both corporate and government entities.

You are asking me for proof that corporate entities went against the Left (in an all around sense)... in the USA?? Seriously?😂

When I posted about what basically was the nationalization of the private sector in 1917, did I also posted about the corporate pushback? No, because there was none.

Regarding "leftist foolishness", please, define "foolish" first - because I suspect that this term, today, often brings a lack of objectiveness in the discourse (the same way that "problematic" does).
For every idiot who denounces Ayn Rand as "intellectualism" there is an excellent DM who creates a "Bioshock" adventure.

I see you writing, but all I'm reading is 'but this isn't unprecedented' despite this being very much UNprecedented in terms of scope, reach, and vitriol.

I really don't understand what kind of point you're trying to make here. My stance is that the left, using an unholy fusion of ideology that crosses both corporate and government lines, is attempting to silence dissent in absolutely appalling ways. And that even liberals should be up in arms about it, because if nothing else, they had better hope nobody else gets their hands on these powers.

Meanwhile, the Bush administration didn't serve the Dixie Chicks with a court order to shut up. Myspace didn't shut their fanpage down (did they have a Myspace page? I dunno). They lost album and concert revenue, but that was because they went out of their way to piss off country music fans, who were (and still are) pretty conservative. And they stopped listening.

Even Conservatives condemn McCarthy these days.  Even though he was completely correct.

Meanwhile the people that bitch incessantly about McCarthy are now using the same methods he did.  If what happened then was wrong why is it okay now?

I never thought to quote myself as a reference, but here you are:

How many people, today, say sane, basic things and are cancelled for that thanks to the current climate of mass hysteria? (Which is everywhere, BTW: RPGs? Hysteria. Masks? Hysteria. Politics? Hysteria. Pop culture? Hysteria...)

Maybe I should have added "I yearn for the times when mass hysteria was for one thing..."

Don't underestimate America's inclination for crystallising around one ideal, every other value, virtue and principle be damned.

If anything, today we have a polarisation, with opposing ideals clashing across the whole society's fabric. I still stand by the way people crystallise around these ideals.

I think you missed what the previous administration attempted to do. Again, I'm not American. I don't have a dog in this race (except when American politics touch my hobbies). I look from outside and I see a country at war with itself for reasons that, IMHO, are not even really understood by their extremists (and that others, on both sides, are happy to ride for their own gain).

Some of them do. I personally posted the worries of liberal thinkers... well, in the RPG forum, cough, and I got a warning by the Pundit. But when you see Christians, atheists and liberals expressing the very same worries, and quoting each other, you know that something deep down is very wrong in that society.

Again: they went against a mass hysteria so deep and vast that it didn't even need laws. They were also right. No one said "Well, you were right and tried to warn us but I was too convinced of my ideas and instead I cancelled you. I'm sorry. Friends again?" (Well, maybe a couple of dudes did that, dunno).

How many times we will hear from TBP (or Twitter for what it matters) "You were right about the fact that 'escapism' is just that, and not a way to justify 'racism' and 'colonialism', but I was too convinced of my ideas and instead I cancelled you. I'm sorry. Friends again?"

My money is on none. Nor I see a difference between these two examples.

While your points on old WW are correct...
(Top 3 worst presidents of all time and my personal pick for the number 1 spot because he laid the ground work for FDR and LBJ)

...I think you are missing some of the context for 2003.  The media helped Bush/Cheney gin up the hysteria and tie it to 9/11.  If there was any real desire to invade Iraq by the public, they wouldn't have needed to lie and obfuscate as much.  There actually was a chunk of us in the United States who opposed it, the independents and a lot of the hard left.  Since there was almost nil media coverage because it didn't fit the establishment narrative I would imagine most people who weren't right here would have been very aware of it.

That is the real difference this time and why the fascists are going ballistic.  Everyone with a cellphone can get the news out and the establishment has to really turn the screws in order to suppress it.  Getting an outsider in (Trump) fucked up their plans and they had to destroy him. Unfortunately for them, they had to take the masks off to do it.

That is where the visceral reaction is coming from.  For fuck's sake you have governments openly defying the Nuremberg Code and trying to 'justify' it.  The last time western civilization executed a bunch of medical personnel for this.  That kind of 'caution to the winds' activity is the sign of either a cornered rat or someone who thinks they can't lose at this point...

...but if you can't lose, why upset the apple cart on the way?

To Ghostmaker's point...

The Dixie Chicks are a bad example for your argument because there actually is a difference and it is a very important distinction.

No matter whether the hysteria was ginned up by media and the government, it WAS their fans who quit buying their stuff.  The government did not use lawfare against them, financial institutions did not illegally seize their assets, and they weren't removed from the public sphere at the request of the government.  That is the distinction he is making.

Now whether or not Jr would have tried it if he thought he could get away with it is another debate.  Personally, I think he was just happy to get the POLICE STATE PATRIOT Act passed and was playing the long game...

As a side note; even Tolkien sometimes talked about the American tendency to easily "kindle" around new trends.

So, here we are: August 13, the day Trump is supposed to return to the White House...

C'mon, you assholes, get back to cheering for your Orange Man because the Pillow Prophet can't be wrong, right?

I'm off to watch Free Guy, which is likely far too realistic for the ever-Trumpers to enjoy, but I hope we have some more idiotic rumblings from those idiots here that still feel the election will be overturned. Please, amuse me further.

I don't remember any of us claiming Trump would be back in office today.  I remember some of us questioning the validity of the election because we can actually do basic statistical analysis but I don't remember anything about this.  Link please.

I also don't understand this almost psychotic aversion to some ex-addict who started a pillow company...does he frighten you somehow?

...and how do you have time to go to a movie and post here if Covid is over-running Florida?

Well, a lot of their condemnation relies on a very long, very determined propaganda campaign against him.   I have a feeling if the thing were all laid out, he would be condemned a whole hell of a lot less, and given the effect of allowing outright commies to influence institutions for so long now... some people may even feel he was justified and now vindicated.

Socialist/marxist principles only have one principle, and that is winning.

Nurses have days off too.

As for the Pillow Prophet, he's a fun symbol of the post-election Trumpers' collective stupidity. Rudy was too, for a time, but he eventually stopped being (publicly) stupid. But Mikey just keeps on delivering.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan implodes. Granted, there's plenty of blame to spread on the neocon side for that adventure, but watching Sleepy Joe call a 'lid' and go home for pudding and naps is... pretty disconcerting to say the least.

But then, this is what some of you worthless fucktards voted for, right? Mean ol' Trump made your fee-fees hurt, so by God you'd show him, and the rest of us, how to 'govern' -- by shitting up the country even worse.

Nice work.

*Laughing* So true, Ghostmaker! That's the monstrous thing about being brainwashed by the Liberal Marxist Democrats. All of these drooling morons come to believe that incompetence, corruption, and tyranny are all normal and good--as long as such is bubble-wrapped in feel-good SJW platitudes.
