While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The map on this generic site tracking power outages is fairly amusing to look at, it's almost as if one state jumps right up raising it's hand saying "Me! Me! I'm an especially miserable shithole!!"

You are, as always, completely full of shit. California had rolling blackouts in 2001 (because energy traders manipulated energy supply to drive up prices - which resulted in criminal convictions). Their next rolling blackout was 2020. NINETEEN YEARS between them. It lasted TWO HOURS TOTAL. And it was because of a record heat wave which caused everyone to blast their air conditioners all at once. It's not like coal power would have changed that equation - they are not going to let a plant sit for 19 years on the possibility demand will exceed supply once every other decade for a couple of hours.  They needed more battery capacity is the issue.

For comparison, the Texas blackouts were the largest planned blackouts in U.S. history. But somehow you're silent on that one.

https://climatechangedispatch.com/what-really-led-to-californias-incessant-blackouts-a-timeline/

This is the result of 20 years of Democrat-driven fuckery, the Governator's term notwithstanding.

The curious thing I read is that Ghostmaker's link at least partially confirms what Mistwell is saying. According to the link "2020: California experiences rolling blackouts due to insufficient electricity supplies for the first time since 2001.

California does have problems, and I agree that both nuclear and fossil fuels should remain in the mix - especially keeping Diablo Canyon open is a cause I support. But I think the headline is exaggerating California's problems compared to other states.

Showing by absolute number is a pointless comparison. California is the largest state in the union by a lot, so it's always going to have the highest absolute numbers - but that says nothing about the quality of service per customer. When shown per customer, California is average in terms of ordinary blackouts (i.e. problems in power generation). Service is bad when dealing with wildfires, but that isn't related to power generation.

Well, I didn't think about it that much, and in fact, I found that map by mistake while google searching for 'map of which states are the biggest shitholes'. This particular map just incidentally turned out to contain power outages.

But based on what you're saying, if we were so inclined, we could look at the population of California, and the population of Texas, and divide one by the other, and then look at the outages in California, and the outages in Texas, and divide one by the other, and based on that, draw certain very broad conclusions about which of these states has more problems delivering power to its residents.

I admit that doing that would be gratuitous, since we already know the answer. The same could be said about my original 'shithole' question, I already strongly suspected the answer to that one, too :/

I notice how Jhkim is always attempting to defend California bureaucratic policies, whether it is the fucking wildfire clusterfuck, California's economic policies, tax policies, criminal justice system, whatever.

I'm originally from California and lived there for most of my life--over 40 years.

California is a fucking corrupt shithole, and is choking on more and more inefficiency, corruption, and cock-sucking Marxism every day. The goddamned fucking Liberal Democrats there have brainwashed and ass-fucked their way into holding onto power throughout the state--especially in Sacramento, San Francisco, the greater Bay Area, Los Angeles, and even San Diego, increasingly. Like the Pod Mutants from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"--through control of the schools, the media, and entertainment, they have gradually, year by year, brainwashed more people into being mindless, Marxist slaves to the elitist, globalist, Welfare state, which the Marxist Democrat have then leveraged that influence to gain a stranglehold on political power. Now that they have been sitting in the throne of power for years now, they continue to open the gates to the whole fucking sewer. Sky high taxes, letting criminals out of prison, corruption in handling and spending tax-payer money--raising gasoline taxes to pack their friend's asses, losing a billion fucking dollars at the LAUSD, promoting more rainbow hippos and CRT, anti-white racism, punishing businesses so they leave the state--thereby creating more unemployed people, which in turn depend even more on the goddamned government--all the while conveniently creating a multi-layered budgetary "crisis"--where, yes, the Democrat politicians shrieking solution is to raise taxes even further! Armies of filthy, homeless scum and drug addicts, more and more crime, corruption, and poverty.

Geesus. Yeah, California used to be a beautiful, wonderful state. Like fucking paradise in many, many areas. The state is being swallowed in an endless tidalwave of shit now though. It has been choking on this Marxist Democrat corruption for a good 20 years now, and isn't likely to change any time soon. California is fucked.

Ideally, you should also weight the outages by the number of customers affected and the time spent in outages. But I already linked that data previously from the U.S. Energy Administration page. Unfortunately, it only shows the top five and bottom five states rather than a complete coverage.

California only appears in the top 5 in 2019, and as clearly shown - it is from major events (in this case wildfires), not ordinary operation. Its ordinary operation is roughly average for the country. Texas doesn't appear in either the top 5 or bottom 5 of any of the years I checked.

Yeah man, I was born there too, but thankfully my folks got the fuck out when I was still young enough to have some life worth living.

If I were a liberal, and living in that toilet of a state, knowing that the policies *I* support have helped to take a formerly beautiful place straight down the drain, would be a bitter pill to swallow (presuming I could even get any potable water there to wash it down with.)

I might even start cherry picking statistics from carefully curated internet sources, to make it seem like everything was hunky-dory, who knows?

Hilarious. Your link refutes Shasarak's claim, "California experiences rolling blackouts due to insufficient electricity supplies for the first time since 2001." It even mentions the 2001 black was "market manipulation by suppliers and energy traders." Both exactly as I said. But according to Sharack, California has had this issue "every Summer." That's right, once every 19 years, for two hours, is "every Summer" folks.

Meanwhile, how many days was the Texas blackout?
How long have you had problems with attention deficit disorder?

You're arguing that California hasn't had problems until recently. I'm making the point that they've had problems for twenty years thanks to their stupid policies and that it's now coming to a boil.

But then, most leftists like to claim all their woes are bad luck or wreckers. Hope you enjoy paying six to eight bucks for gas this summer, bitch.

Texas power issues come from trying to use that sweet green energy, having a completely independent power grid (that has pluses and minuses), and having to provide power for the DROVES of californians fleeing from california to Texas.
