SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

RPGPundit

This is the thread where RPGPundit talks about stuff he loves about living in Uruguay.

To begin with:

1. That I can walk a few blocks in a lovely spring day (20 degrees) and get to the downtown core, and find that in the city hall there's a huge rock concert going on and a whole crowd of people there for the open-air, free show.  And that this sort of thing goes on all the fucking time here.

2. That I can sit down at La Passiva (perhaps Uruguay's most famous chain of restaurants) and order two "hungaras" (foot long european-style spicy wieners), loaded up with La Pasiva's famous special mustard, and a tall glass of freshly squeezed delicious orange juice, and the whole thing costs under $3 US.

3. The Ice Creameries here.  La Cigale has the best "gelatti" style ice-cream you will ever try. Its fabulous. Again, a huge two-scoop icecream for $2 US.

4. As I noted before here, a 1Lt bottle of beer costs about $1 US.  And its relatively good Pilsner beer, I should note; not mexican pisswater or american-style sludge. I prefer ales, but if you like german-style pilsner/lagers, you'll love the Uruguayan beers.

One of the most enjoyable things about Montevideo to me is the street life, and the fair in the plaza matriz is a great example of it. Surrounded by old architecture, on narrow converted-pedestrian streets, you stroll up to the plaza, surrounded on one side by the old cabildo (which was a government house in the early 19th century and is today a museum) on one side, and the cathedral on the other, with an amazing fountain full of masonic symbolism in the center. All around the fountain and stretching out to the four corners of the plaza are tables loaded with all kinds of wierd old antiques, books, records, collectables, and handicrafts. Its bigger and busier in summer, but even now in the middle of winter its a lot of fun.

Then you finish it off by heading to the Reina de La Vega tobacconist and buying a cigar, and stopping at one of the cute little french-style bistros along that street for a fine lunch. In todays case, it was fettucine a la pesto, with a fantastic little "cortado" (what in north america would be a "cafe americano", not to be confused with american coffee, which in the rest of the world is just known as mud), and freshly squeezed orange juice. And I mean freshly squeezed; they make it right there! Uruguay is a great country for fresh orange juice.

Hey Pundit,
Why don't you do a Frappr map guide to your favorite spots?
I'd be interested in seeing it.

RPGPundit

Dude, why don't you just come to visit instead? I will personally show you all my favourite places in Montevideo. You won't regret it.
