This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Gerrymandering is bi-partisan!

This guy gets it.

Shout-out to my fellow Purple State/Swing State residents out there!

Regarding state corruption - 538 did a report on trying to rank various states by different corruption measures. I don't see a clear pattern as far as red, blue, or purple.

Alabama isn't in the top three of any of the rankings, so I have my doubts about the methodology.

Well, it is #4 on the reporter ranking - which I think is an important one.

If I'm serious for a moment, in Alabama I think a big chunk of that ranking could just be reporters still butthurt over former Governor Don Siegelman's conviction for corruption.  Source: worked at a newspaper for nine years and heard them griping.  I'm more inclined to devalue that one just because of local politics.

Hmm. More corruption convictions means more corruption? What about a lack of convictions because party corruption?

No pattern jumps out at me, but the reason I defend the concept that "purple" is better is because both parties have to work for votes because each election could be a toss up. If a state is solidly for one Team, that Team doesn't have to do much to retain power and whenever politicians feel their job is safe, their voters are neglected.

It's also why I like term limits. Politicians aren't a fine wine. More like a diaper.

I lived in Louisiana in the 80s when all the pols were still Dems and they were a corrupt bunch. They switch to Repub starting in the 90s and are still the same corrupt bunch. So the state earns it's no 1 corruption rating. And as a side note, someone told me at a Sunday School get together dinner that he felt the presence of evil when flying into New Orleans, my thought was which pol was in town that day.

I do not know how current it is, But I remember looking up how much in taxes facebook, Google, and Apple pay to Cali back a few years ago when Californians were talking secession and how great they would have it with those fantastic tech companies being in their state/new nation.  Turns out, those massive corporations pay zero income taxes in Cali......yet Cali HAMMERS the working people of California......

This struck me as hilarious on many levels.

For most of the 90's British Columbia was in the control of the NDP (left of center socialist party) and they got increasingly corrupt (from a higher base corruption) until everyone got so fed up with the scandals that they voted in the Liberals (provincial version which is right of center).  Within a few years the Liberals ended up being WORSE than the NDP so we recently kicked them out for a minority NDP/Green coalition.  I'm hoping the looming specter of only being up 1 MLA keeps these turds honest this time.
