What specifically went down with Dragoncon and Libertycon?

Social justice smear campaigns to try and deny guest status and panel presenter status to  "problematic" people like John Ringo, Larry Correia, Larry Niven, and whoever else they didn't think was "woke" enough. Both DragonCon and LibertyCon told them that they would invite whoever the Hell they wanted as guests.

Yeah I'm not sure how the fuck the Overton Window shifted on that one.  It's a big part of why they've gone after Hambly as well.  Before the whole cosplay bruhahaha he got under the skin of MtG because he outed some of their judges as pedophiles.  That made him an easy target for a slut in a costume.

I thought the Stand Against Pedophilia thing was just Jon Del Arroz trolling Worldcon. He seems to have a bit of an obsession with that particular organization what with lawsuits & etc..

I suppose he did choose well in hitting them on a sore point, since SF fandom has some ugly history on that subject (*cough* Walter Breen *cough*).

Those comments under that article got nasty fast.  Why is it racism has to have 3 or 4 definitions?  It seems like it should be pretty easy to spot something legitimately racist, but we have some extremes where everything is racist or nothing is racist based on the target of the stuff.  It is as if they are making racism like homocide, where one type is murder and one type is self defense.  It seems not that complicated.

It has multiple definitions because ignorant people will do anything to justify their ignorant beliefs.

People who are activated into a belief-system, no matter what the cause, will do anything to lump people into simplistic categories for the purposes of justifying their self-serving needs. Including emotional revenge.

Edit: the irony that they often become what they pretend they're warring against is beautifully Nietzchean. And likewise generally ignored. Hence the irony.

It seems to be a low hanging fruit for the Alt Right. They love it when they can get the Control-Left defending pedos and the pedo-adjacent like that Guardians of the Galaxy fellow. Disney are too savvy for them (and the DC Deep State too able to control the narrative by inserting crazy conspiracy theories into reasonable allegations), but the science fiction book community leadership certainly are not.

The latter. You'll find pedophelia in any reasonably-sized organization or community (just as you'll find rape, fraud, etc.). No reason to believe it has ever been more common in SFF than elsewhere.

But the Red vs Blue death struggle is careening through cyberspace like those two dudes in the Let That Be Your Last Battlefield episode of Trek. Take the Gunn case cited above. Dude engages in tasteless gross-out humour. But since he's a member of the Other Team, the knives come out and he's a pedophile. It's all just a big game for two tribes of bored, pissy, frustrated people.
