SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Would people plan to make use of this table in the Combat section? Does it fit with the spirit of the game?

I would have thought so, but so far in my new running of Temple of Elemental Evil, I haven't had a single moment where I thought "here's the right moment to roll the permanent injury table".  Of course, part of the reason for that is that just about anything that's likely to get you permanently injured is also likely to get you killed.

I was not surprised by its inclusion in the game.  I wouldn't want it to come up often.  Its mere existence is enough of a threat most of the time.

And soft touch GMs can use it as an alternative to death sort of deal.

I like the meta effects of such rules.  It gives veterans a reason to retire instead of becoming increasingly more powerful.  One legged fighters and mind blasted wizards make great tutors and patrons.

I always thought Palladium's permanent injury chart worked pretty well.  If you got down below 0 HP, you fell into a coma.  Assuming you survived, you had to make another check of some kind and then possibly roll for a permanent injury.

They had another chart (or two) you could use for major injuries, too, for when you lost a lot of HP at once or got too close to 0.  Stuff like broken limbs, etc, that would last for a few weeks.
