No, you're simply oversimplifying. You want to characterize a vast number of people with different motivations and PoV under the umbrella of a small number of extremists. I don't support GG, but its not as black and white as you are presenting it, far from it. And to claim that anyone who supports it supports everything possibly associated with the origins of the movement is as myopic as claiming that every American is a supporter of the KKK.

They rallied under that banner on their own. Nobody made them do it. If their pet cause(s) were worth fighting for, they'd ditch Gamergate and come up with their own hashtag. Assuming of course they really had a cause other than stalking and making threats against anyone in the games industry with a vagina and an opinion.

Bad analogy. The republic wasn't founded by Nathan Bedford Forrest, but the Klan was. The Gaters who (unconvincingly) claim they don't support the stalking and threats are like the southerners during Jim Crow who insist they weren't in favor of lynchings and the firebombing of churches -they just supported the Klan's efforts to clean up litter along the highways.

Years ago, when it was revealed that Ain't It Cool News was on the take from New Line Cinema (advertising and freebies for Harry Knowles & Co. in exchange for favorable coverage of every New Line movie, no matter how shitty), Fat Harry suffered a lot of well-deserved ridicule for it. You should see if you can get James Maliszewski to talk to you. His blog was a big focal point for the OSR in its early days. After the kickstarter disaster, he went into hiding for a while, but over the past year he's been writing articles online on another site periodically (cant for the life of me recall the name of the site).

That's a good plan. Maliszewski is a self-serving narcissistic opportunistic asshole who would do anything to be the center of attention again.  So he'll almost certainly want to be treated like he was back in the days when he was Pope of the (worst of the) OSR, even if just for 15 minutes, even if it's just by the non-OSR assholes over at rpgnet.

I disagree with your statements about GG, and the grand thing is that there are more and more people who aren't going to blindly swallow these kinds of threat narratives and social bullshit tactics. Not necessarily, I'd say. They're much smaller sites in terms of scope and focus. This is a more general site, which can accommodate more range of subjects.

I'm a moderator on Dragonsfoot, so my job there is to implement Steve's policy.  I'm responsible for enforcing the site rules but I don't decide what they say.  I know you feel I do that in an intellectually dishonest way.  Luckily, I find that I can live with your disapproval.

On K&KA, I'm an administrator and theoretically I get to set policy (in collaboration with others and after consulting them; I'm not the only administrator).  I do have some input on what the site rules say there.  But K&KA's run in memory of, and in honour of, the late Jerry Mapes and it's still run according to the principles he set when he was alive, and I'm uncomfortable with changing them.

Many people would have set up a blog, but I'm not the kind of person who can run a blog properly.  You can't do a decent job of blogging unless you have something new and interesting to say every few days, which definitely rules me out.

So I came to a forum that offers a wide freedom of speech, and I used it in accordance with its site rules and general culture.
