SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Quote from: TristramEvans;842577Who is Adam Baldwin's ex GF?

The hate campaign (before Baldwin gave it a moronic name) was started by a weasely prick currently under a restraining order for ginning up a mob of neckbeards and other trash to stalk his ex-gf for him.

You're trying much too hard.
Jesus Fucking Christ, is this guy honestly that goddamned stupid? He can\'t understand the plot of a Star Wars film? We\'re not talking about "Rashomon" here, for fuck\'s sake. The plot is as linear as they come. If anything, the film tries too hard to fill in all the gaps. This guy must be a flaming retard.  --Mike Wong on Red Letter Moron\'s review of The Phantom Menace

No, you're simply oversimplifying. You want to characterize a vast number of people with different motivations and PoV under the umbrella of a small number of extremists. I don't support GG, but its not as black and white as you are presenting it, far from it. And to claim that anyone who supports it supports everything possibly associated with the origins of the movement is as myopic as claiming that every American is a supporter of the KKK.

Quote from: Elfdart;842575If you support Gamergate (a movement started by a stalker creep trying to gin up a mob against an ex-girlfriend), then you do hate women -at least the uppity ones. Don't kid yourself.

And you've just proven I don't ever have to take anything you say seriously. Go fuck yourself.
1. Some of you culture warriors are so committed to the bit you'll throw out any nuance or common sense in fear it's 'giving in' to the other side.

2. I'm a married homeowner with a career and a child. I won life. You can't insult me.

3. I work in a Prison, your tough guy act is boring.

Quote from: TristramEvans;842581No, you're simply oversimplifying.

Well, oversimplifying in a complex, elaborate manner would be bad form.

QuoteYou want to characterize a vast number of people with different motivations and PoV under the umbrella of a small number of extremists.

They rallied under that banner on their own. Nobody made them do it. If their pet cause(s) were worth fighting for, they'd ditch Gamergate and come up with their own hashtag. Assuming of course they really had a cause other than stalking and making threats against anyone in the games industry with a vagina and an opinion.

QuoteI don't support GG, but its not as black and white as you are presenting it, far from it.

Of course it is.

QuoteAnd to claim that anyone who supports it supports everything possibly associated with the origins of the movement is as myopic as claiming that every American is a supporter of the KKK.

Bad analogy. The republic wasn't founded by Nathan Bedford Forrest, but the Klan was. The Gaters who (unconvincingly) claim they don't support the stalking and threats are like the southerners during Jim Crow who insist they weren't in favor of lynchings and the firebombing of churches -they just supported the Klan's efforts to clean up litter along the highways.

Years ago, when it was revealed that Ain't It Cool News was on the take from New Line Cinema (advertising and freebies for Harry Knowles & Co. in exchange for favorable coverage of every New Line movie, no matter how shitty), Fat Harry suffered a lot of well-deserved ridicule for it. Fun though it was to bust his balls for selling out what little credibility he had, the idea of stalking him at his house or online, or being in any way associated with fucktards who would do it is sick beyond belief.

Gamergaters are fucking swine no decent human being would have anything to do with.

Heh, amusing that shows up in this thread as you sound EXACTLY like an RPGnet mod, and all that entails.

But Ive reached my quota for arguing with the wilfully ignorant online for the day, so believe what you want.

The restraint and gag orders on Eron Gjoni, issued on questionable premises in favor of an alleged abuser and gaslighter who just happens to be a scion of a monied east coast family, are disgusting things.

Quote from: TristramEvans;842383You should see if you can get James Maliszewski to talk to you. His blog was a big focal point for the OSR in its early days. After the kickstarter disaster, he went into hiding for a while, but over the past year he's been writing articles online on another site periodically (cant for the life of me recall the name of the site).

That's a good plan. Maliszewski is a self-serving narcissistic opportunistic asshole who would do anything to be the center of attention again.  So he'll almost certainly want to be treated like he was back in the days when he was Pope of the (worst of the) OSR, even if just for 15 minutes, even if it's just by the non-OSR assholes over at rpgnet.

Last year after 5e came out, we caught Ettin spending hours and hours reading through my 10-year old blog posts trying to find some out-of-context quotes he could spread around to smear me with.

I support Gamergate. I disagree with your statements about GG, and the grand thing is that there are more and more people who aren't going to blindly swallow these kinds of threat narratives and social bullshit tactics. I'll look into issues and make up my own damn mind, and not just accept your statements blindly, thank you very much. :)

Not necessarily, I'd say. They're much smaller sites in terms of scope and focus. This is a more general site, which can accommodate more range of subjects.

Quote from: Elfdart;842530Isn't it an indictment of both of those sites (where you're a moderator, by the way) that you have to come here to post about it?

I'm a moderator on Dragonsfoot, so my job there is to implement Steve's policy.  I'm responsible for enforcing the site rules but I don't decide what they say.  I know you feel I do that in an intellectually dishonest way.  Luckily, I find that I can live with your disapproval.

On K&KA, I'm an administrator and theoretically I get to set policy (in collaboration with others and after consulting them; I'm not the only administrator).  I do have some input on what the site rules say there.  But K&KA's run in memory of, and in honour of, the late Jerry Mapes and it's still run according to the principles he set when he was alive, and I'm uncomfortable with changing them.

Many people would have set up a blog, but I'm not the kind of person who can run a blog properly.  You can't do a decent job of blogging unless you have something new and interesting to say every few days, which definitely rules me out.

So I came to a forum that offers a wide freedom of speech, and I used it in accordance with its site rules and general culture.
