This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.
The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Obviously I have my issues with the direction RPGnet went and the methods of moderation, but this thread is just....petty.

YOu don't want to help ShannonA with their book because he hurt your feelings online a while back? Fine. Heck, I can empathize. I can only imagine what vitriol I'd manage to drum up if Ettin or Kai Tav ever contacted me looking for a favour

But posting the exchange here? What do you want? A pat on the back? "Look how I stuck it to those rpgnet folks?" C'mon man. Therpgsite is at its best when its doing its own thing, and its at its absolute worste when it's imitating a poor man's SomethingAwful.

My thoughts exactly.

What I want is to exactly mimic the effect of the rpg.net infractions board: to put what ought to be private communications in the public eye.

Obviously, if it really mimicked the effect of that board then ShannonA would have no right of reply and communications disagreeing with me would be summarily deleted...

Intellectual and social bias is what drives the toxic culture at RPGnet. Adopting the selfsame tactics to construct a mirror image of their culture doesn't improve the online environment, it just tars you with the same brush.

Fortunately for us, the owner, mods, and admins on the RPGSite don't want to limit freedom of expression.

If you aren't interested in reading P&P's contribution to the public record here, don't read it and click on another topic or start a topic of your own.

Nothing about theRPGsite or the way you want to use it has been in any way affected by the fact that P&P has used a thread to record Shannon's continued evasiveness.

P&P unequivocally did the right thing. Sticking around to complain that he did the right thing in a place where you don't want to read about it smacks of masochism.

Arguments for an echo chamber are pretty shallow.

Yeah, no. I'm not going to say he did the "wrong thing", because there's no reason to apply any moral judgement here either way. But he certainly didn't take the high road.

I mean, who was the last frequent poster to get banned from here, Ghost Whistler?

Man, I have tried. I have broken every single fucking rule we have. Every. One.

Damn straight.

ETA:  I'm really talking about the Yggsburgh one.

Ah, okay, when you say "list" I think of a formal listserv type system, and usually when we talk about the "list" games and talk is what I'm thinking about.  The "List" for Yggsburg from what I understand is more akin to just a group of people put in the TO: address, so I'd call that more of an e-mail chain than anything.
Just some background on myself

I have no problem with airing of grievances and what not, however I still think saying you'll actively work to discredit anything the person writes on the subject and then saying you are sure they can't possibly do so in a competent fashion is just silly. It's the same sort of thing we would trip shit over if we saw others doing. You can disagree with the persons actions, stances, etc but evaluating a work on anything other than it's own merits is simply dishonest.

Zak some days your are an annoying ass. This is one of those days. And the irony of you suggesting I'm being masochistic is hysterical. If you want an echo chamber you have your own blog for that. Now go do something useful like make some art or something.

Eh, useful is pretty subjective. Useful to someone who is familiar with OSRIC? Maybe not. But for someone who is only tangentially aware of the OSR if could be useful even if it just spurs them to take a closer look at that particular system. You can shout to the heavens that it's not a useful work and that's fine because you could argue that from any angle. However to work to actively discredit it no matter how it turns out just isn't cool, it's letting a grudge get in the way of objectivity.

I don't think that RPGnet has a problem with the OSR. I think that some notable folks in the OSR have been asked to leave the forums and that's understandably colored perceptions. I'm going to choose not to engage on the broad issue of RPGnet and moderation here, other than to say that I think that RPGnet's moderation helps to create a pleasant community, and it certainly won't be to everyone's taste. There was for example some refreshing bluntness at the top of this thread that I don't think I'd see at RPGnet, but different forums can serve different communities with different cultures and different purposes.

It's important to remember that Shannon's moderators include people who have publicly organized harassment campaigns. He's running a hypocritical hate group and has shown no interest in cleaning house. One can only conclude, therefore, that Shannon endorses the practice of publicly organizing harassment campaigns.

It seems clear that Shannon wants his academic work in recording the history of the industry to be taken seriously. Unfortunately, it's somewhat difficult to consider his work unbiased or objective given his current position of overseeing a hate group that targets specific RPG designers.
