SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

I joined RPG.net after being a lurker for many years back in 2009. I earned my first ban for a week that same year for criticizing someone who claimed to be a Doctor on Tangency spouting Rayndian philosophy non-stop and talking about how he wouldn't treat anyone, even if they were dying, without being paid.

I questioned him being an actual Doctor and insinuated if he was, he was probably a sociopath.... Then Mod "Future Villain Band" gave me a week off for that...

These days, on Tangency I would probably have gotten a pat on the back..

My next ban came in 2014 when the Gamergate fiasco exploded. I make no allusion that I believe Anita Sarkeesian to be a con woman, and who has no basis in science for her skewed beliefs. I especially took offense at being told I hated women for supporting Gamergate. Defending myself gave me a month off from now Mod "Black Hat Matt" a writer I once had a great respect and admiration for.

When I came back...I spoke up in a thread about Evil Hat driving Desborough 's game off of Drive Thru RPG....when Gamergate came up, I specifically mentioned "I don't want to talk about Gamergate as I don't agree with it being a hate mob, and last time it was brought up, I got banned.."

That statement earned me a permanent Ban. Mentioning I didn't want to talk about it, was considered the equivlent of me flying a Swastika and yelling "Heil Hitler!"

The sad thing is, I probably agree with 95% of the politics of the mods there... but in the end, it's become the damn French Revolution. The party continues to get more and more extreme, more people are led to the Guillotine for not supporting the party line...

In the end, this is ultimately what led me to saying "Fuck RPG.net, Fuck it hard and long and dump it off on a street corner somewhere with bus fair."

The site continues to push forward more and more extremist views, not accepting any dissent and acting as nothing more than an advertising firm for Evil Hat and Onyx Path, fuck I love Onyx Path games...and their own website allows for more free speech and dissenting opinion than RPG.net does..

This false belief that's pushed of "Everything is Political" even fucking pretend Elf Games, is why it's becoming nothing more than an echo chamber full of circle jerking and people lining up to beg to be part of the circle jerk.

Yeah I'm pissed. I'm pissed because I was pilloried and mocked, and told I hate women, told I hate my own Mother and Sister (Yes a Mod told me I hated my own Mother and Sister when I brought them up) and I was the worst scum for disagreeing about finding videogames sexist....and THEN trying not to get involved in a conversation about it afterward..

So yeah, again FUCK RPG.net
1. Some of you culture warriors are so committed to the bit you'll throw out any nuance or common sense in fear it's 'giving in' to the other side.

Gentlemen, ladies, otherkin, this is about OSR and pettiness. Let's not make this into a 'why we hate the rpg.net site, since A) it's not going to change shit and B) it has been demonstratively shown that no one in a position to change anything gives a shit.

I should have added, I can understand the reticence to work with anyone from RPG.net given the way their staff acts.

Quote from: ShannonA;842384Is that what you annoyance with the site is about? That forum is public so that people who have been banned came come back and read their infractions. If that's an issue, we can dig for alternatives.

Yeah: that filthy baboon Ettin posted sneering lies about me in that forum and deleted my responses out of hand.  You refused point blank to do anything about it.  Those lies were up there for years and I could do nothing.  Since then your moderation staff have lied, lied, and lied again about the OSR and you're responsible for what they say.

I've waited about five years for someone from rpg.net to need something from me.

I will disagree with your opinions, in particular toward attitudes about the OSR. But, I'm looking into whether there are some options that will make the Infractions less accessible (or really: less search-engineable).

With that, I'm going to withdraw from this conversation. If anyone is interested in my work on OSR histories, please feel free to drop me a line at my email address, which is on the first page of the thread in a few places.

I think it was more a sly "Wow, we have an opportunity to talk TO RPGnet rather than just talk ABOUT RPGnet!" tangent. :D

It's a bit more like Krusty the Clown visiting Chipperfield's Circus.

I've always been amused that so many mods and admins over at Something Purple have accounts here.

But talking to as opposed to about, has about the same effect. Which is absolutely nothing.  Might as well have directed the comments to a cobblestone during heavy traffic.

On your own site, what you've just done is the equivilent of waving a swastika and yelling, "Heil, Hitler". Take a week off.

And to throw a Darren McLennan-ism in there:

You're not new, Mr. Appel. We don't like that shit here, and it makes me angry. When I get angry, Permabans fly. You should know better.

Joking aside and to drag this back on topic, P&P need not threaten anything. While your first four volumes managed to somewhat tow the line in terms of being even-handed, that appendix was a political manifesto, right down to veiled character assassination about Pundit and ZakS. Any last vestiges of respect for your historian integrity is likely limited to your own mod-clique back at Lorraine Williams' office.

Maybe even they sometimes get the heretical urge to put "realz" before "feelz".

It's OK if you can't handle the heat. No one will judge you for making a hasty retreat back to "pleasantville".

That's probably more accurate, but not overly dramatic enough for this thread.
Let's put this in Brad terms:

"It's like Hitler visiting Israel!"

At least that's the vibe I am getting from a lot of posters here.

He made a mention of consultant-gate as an example of a "dark underbelly" of RPGs (paraphrasing).
