This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.
The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Greetings!

Episode of Who We Are, about Mat Best, Co-Founder of Black Rifle Coffee Company. Awesome video, and outstanding coffee! The company is owned by veterans, and mostly staffed by veterans. The Black Rifle Coffee Company is a very different kind of company.

Have you actually tried the coffee?

(Genuinely curious, I'd like to throw some money their way but haven't had a chance to try it yet)

I have.

And I'm what pleb-coffee drinkers (anyone who goes to Starbucks or less) would call a coffee-snob. But I would say I'm just pretty particular because I'm pretty deep into it: I roast, my coffee-gear is almost as substantial as my gaming gear, etc. etc. I'm just a very big coffee-enthusiast that loves to talk about it with anyone likeminded.

1) Their coffee is good. Not great but good. And this depends on how you like your coffee roasted and brewed. I prefer light-roasted (more kick). Dark-roasted is easy as shit, and kills the real flavor of the coffee on purpose. They do this well at either end of the spectrum.

2) It's not the quality of their beans, but their general skill in roasting that makes their coffee decent or better.

So if you'd don't give a fuck about regional qualities of coffee - like most people - you'll probably love it. If you're wanting some revelation and are into coffee, you're not gonna find it here.

But I like supporting their cause as well as their produce so win/win.

I've tried it. It wasn't bad. I won't go out of my way for it, but when my friend offers it again, I'll happily take a cup.

Shark, I am so disappointed in you...

You posted a video link for BRCC and it isn't a video of their Prius???

Ahhh! SWEET JESUS!:D FUCKING OOH RAH!!!!!

Damn, can you imagine driving that thing around?

Yeah, I do like Black Rifle Coffee. I support them even more because they are veterans, patriots, and true Americans. I've also seen more of their "Who We Are" videos where they highlight different individual employees. These people are all outstanding!

The coffee is good, but a little pricey.  It's considerably better than Starbucks.  I'm happy to support them.

This is what has kept me from pulling the trigger, so to speak.  That and the fact that I'm a dark roast guy and they have three different ones, not sure which to get (I like a rich, earthy dark roast).

I've been a BRRC member for 2 years and I do enjoy their coffee.

IMO, whatever roast you get, you can't go wrong. It's a good quality coffee with a worthy cause: portion of the proceeds go towards veteran, police, and first responder organizations.

I'll see your BRCC and raise you a Leadslingers Whiskey!

Great whiskey! The rye is as smooth as a stripper's ass.

Hopefully I can get their rum in the near future.

I've only had the Freedom Fuel Dark roast.  I liked it.  The Just Black is good too.

I broke down this week and got a bag of the Just Black. It was good, but a little on the weak side flavor-wise. I added an extra scoop to my normal batch (a 4-cup brew, I usually use one scoop per 6 oz water) and it was just right.

Flavor from coffee comes from light and medium roasts. "Dark roast" is effectively like getting your steak "well done" - it literally cooks the flavor (and caffeine) out of the beans. The "strong" flavor that people associate with "dark roast" is the over-burning of the bean not the actual coffee itself.

There are various reasons for this - most dark roasts are low-quality beans that roasters buy in bulk and mix together with other beans bought in bulk. You'll see them called "blends". High quality coffee usually is single-sourced from the same farm, or at minimum from the same region to maintain clarity of flavor and quality.

Dark roasting your coffee hides the inconsistencies by scorching the shit out of your beans. *Most* people are used to thinking "this is what coffee is supposed to taste like."

This is also the secret to Starbucks success.

Good to know.

Still doesn't change the fact that Starcucks is an asshole company.

BRCC is the Anti-Starbucks, and I'm very OK with that.

Yup! Try their light-roast. It's great.

Starbucks is the devil. I could explain their shitty sourcing practices (which ironically for a "woke" company particularly ***FUCKS*** African, and Central American coffee farmers) but I'm sure it would bore everyone.
