This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Being called Fredo is now equivalent to calling someone the N-Word

I'll do it.

Ni... ni... ni... Nixon!

It is not often that somebody says something dumber than Trump, but this is lowering the bar for racism to an absurd level.

It is also counter productive for anyone worried about actual destructive racial prejudice. When racism is spouted for every transgression it becomes meaningless, much in the way Nazi and Hitler have lost their edge. Saddam Hussein actually modeled himself on Hitler, so comparisons in the 90s were not completely without merit, these days calling someone Hitler just means asshole who's politics I disagree with. Racist is headed down that path rather quickly.

Omega

Exactly. These nutcases have taken terns and stretched them to mean literally "everything on earth" and the terms lose any meaning.

Remember kids. "Everything is Racist, Everything is Sexist."

Fredo is definitely not the N word for Italians. It isn't even a slur (there are plenty of other more recognizable slurs for Italians if that is what the guy was going for). It is definitely an insult though. So no surprise someone flies off the handle if you call them that (Fredo is not only an idiot in the Godfather, he is also something of a baby).

Also, watching the video it looks like the guy who said was also Italian (if I understood what Chris Cuomo was saying)

Then Cuomo should keep his mouth shut.

I think the part that makes him look silly is asserting that it was a slur and trying to 'educate' the guy about the term. But if someone calls you stupid (which is what calling someone Fredo means) then I would expect them to get into the persons face like that. Maybe these kinds of reactions vary from place to place in the country. But where I am from if someone does that to you, I would expect a fight to break out. Not saying violence is justified. But it is a pretty typical reaction here to being insulted. Like if I called some guy at a bar Fredo, it wouldn't shock me if he threw a punch at me or at least starting to use increasingly aggressive language.
