Except you cannot separate the two, try as you might. The thing that really bothers me is that ELECTED officials are playing this game as well (as indicated in the article I began this topic with). The threats of violence are attempts at voter and ideological suppression. And yes, both sides are making stupid statements in some cases, but when elected officials commit to keeping a list of ideological opponents to "punish", we've entered Banana Republic territory.

I'd say we're approaching 1960s United States territory. Thankfully, we haven't had a rash of assassinations like what we saw then - with King, JFK, Robert Kennedy and numerous others. But the violent talk and political violence has been escalating up, to the point where it seems possible to me that we may eventually reach those levels.

I think "kill them all" is more than just a "stupid statement" - and it is objectively a big step up from "punish". The death threats I posted were from very prominent people - not just random Internet posters. The chief of police is an elected position. Bannon wasn't elected, but he was chief strategist in the White House. For an elected official on the national level, I would cite Marjorie Greene - who hasn't explicitly called for death, but has talked of "going on the offensive" with pictures of her with her rifle.
