SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The RPGPundit's Own Forum Rules
This part of the site is controlled by the RPGPundit. This is where he discusses topics that he finds interesting. You may post here, but understand that there are limits. The RPGPundit can shut down any thread, topic of discussion, or user in a thread at his pleasure. This part of the site is essentially his house, so keep that in mind. Note that this is the only part of the site where political discussion is permitted, but is regulated by the RPGPundit.

Quote from: Neckbeard comic guy who probably hasn't showered since the 60's"What appealed to me most about comics is no more, and these innocent and inventive and imaginative superhero characters from the Forties, Fifties, Sixties are being recycled to a modern audience as if they were adult fare."

The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

Overrated, anyway.  I read "Watchmen" like around 1990 and said, "That's it?"

"Watchmen" wasn't bad in my book. "V for Vendetta" was a festering pile of shit with a crappy message, though.

What "message"? The very point of the book is that there is no "message".

That you must become the moral and ethical equivalent of your enemies in order to defeat them.
"Meh."

He did that NOW?!? I could sort of see this happening amid the "they murdered the poor little innocent puppy George Floyd" hysteria, but now that most people have realized they're scam?? Has he been living under a....oh wait.

In Moore's own words:

[V's actions are] "very, very morally ambiguous" with the aim that "I didn't want to tell people what to think, I just wanted to tell people to think."
For every idiot who denounces Ayn Rand as "intellectualism" there is an excellent DM who creates a "Bioshock" adventure.

Authors can tell you what they intended to produce.  That may not be what they actually produced.  Otherwise, all literature would be good...

He's never wanted that money and it's good that he's giving it to a cause he believes in.

Armchair Gamer

As far as I can tell, Moore has been part of the cynical poison destroying modern entertainment from the beginning, so this doesn't really surprise or disappoint me. Even the famous "For the Man Who Has Everything ..." has a pretty clear theme that "Krypton was better off dead"--and that was pre-Crisis, pre-Byrne.

Svenhelgrim

Has anyone actually checked to see if this guy actually gave his money away?  I'm guessing that he kept a large portion of it for himself and the quote left out that percentage.

blackstone

Alan Moore is overrated, pretentious, and an all out creep.
This next thing doesn't surprise me.

Skullking

Good job he no longer creates anything worth buying.

Misty and Reckall are still alive. Hi!

Hey there. Since I (rightfully) got booted from the "RPGnet's decay (TBP madness)" thread I don't find myself in this particular subforum as much these days. But I am still in the main gaming forum.

Alan Moore was one of the two people responsible for decimating modern comics. By causing them to only serve an adult audience. Circulation went through the floor and hasn't stopped.

BadApple

His comics never really appealed to me.  When everyone was going nuts over his Batman run, I didn't like it.  There was a bitterness to them.  It shows through even more in The Watchmen.
>Blade Runner RPG
Terrible idea, overwhelming majority of ttrpg players can't pass Voight-Kampff test.

To be fair he admits this and is sorry.
