The D&D rules and setting are full of utterly false cutesy-poo representations of this horrific race. This is obviously evidence of Gnomish conspiracy to affect Gamers' perceptions of them. Now, one could just play Gnomemurdered instead; but one could also choose to play D&D representing Gnomes as they truly are.
Has anyone done this?
Also, if you were to do this in an official D&D setting, would you do it by simply revising the false representations of Gnomes in that setting as whatever; gentle hill folk, "illusionists", "tinkers", etc., to the true bloodthirsty monsters they are? Or would you incorporate these official lies into the setting, making the characters of the setting originally believe that Gnomes are the way that they've been represented in the official setting material?
