This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Gnomish Propaganda in D&D
« on: January 17, 2010, 04:15:26 pm »
The D&D rules and setting are full of utterly false cutesy-poo representations of this horrific race. This is obviously evidence of Gnomish conspiracy to affect Gamers' perceptions of them.  Now, one could just play Gnomemurdered instead; but one could also choose to play D&D representing Gnomes as they truly are.

Has anyone done this?

Also, if you were to do this in an official D&D setting, would you do it by simply revising the false representations of Gnomes in that setting as whatever; gentle hill folk, "illusionists", "tinkers", etc., to the true bloodthirsty monsters they are? Or would you incorporate these official lies into the setting, making the characters of the setting originally believe that Gnomes are the way that they've been represented in the official setting material?

... you know, the first gnome appearing in a 4e D&D product was evil. And they weren't available as a PC race originally. Clearly an attempt to redress the balance, later subverted by Mike Mearls.

Really? I was not aware of that! Could you please tell me the reference?

Yes, that's a tragedy, that finally there was an edition willing to stand up to the Gnomish menace, only it has been once more subverted.

Honest to god. Keep on the Shadowfell (which came out before the core books) has an encounter with a gnome running a quarry; he's in the employ of the big bad and has captured one of the party's mentors. His name is Agrid, and he is a gnome skulk.

So what the fuck happened? Clearly, for a little while some brave warriors for truth managed to take control of the editorial policy at WoTC and promote the TRUTH about Gnomes! Who were they? Do they yet live? What happened? Why did they now seem to fail and all has gone back to normal?

Underdark (came out yesterday, day before) has evil sinister gnomes in the fey-flavored portion of the Underdark. I think there's a power struggle going on in Seattle.

Clearly. I wonder who are the brave souls struggling to try to promote the Truth, and which WoTC-drones have sold out to serve dark Gnomish masters?
