This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Gnomish Language Subversion

The most worrisome thing about gnomes is that the "G" is silent in their race name. What kind of diabolical reason is there for this? Is it a nefarious attempt to subvert the English language? Or is it somehow connected to Wodehouse's use of the silent "P" in pfish?

It has been suggested that this become its own thread and I agree since it clearly demonstrates the severity of the Gnome problem. Yet their use of silent letters also is a clear demonstration of the stealth and trickery of those same Gnomes.
"Meh."

I have often considered this mystery. Suffice it to say that I believe it is an attempt to subvert and warp the importance of the letter G, long-since considered a very important mystical symbol in certain human esoteric orders.

It is like they're saying "we are the hollow emptiness where (what G represents) is not to be found" or that they are the antithesis of this principle.
