This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[TMNT] taking the best parts

Has anyone had any success in lifting the BIO-E subsystem from TMNT and adapting it to another game?  Obviously, it's do-able, and probably not that hard.  Just wondering if there are success (or failure) stories out there before I try for myself.

The mutation/BIO-E rules are, in my opinion, the best part of TMNT rules-wise.

I'm sure you could apply it almost directly to D20. Changing defense adders to AC adders or HP adders(perhaps both).

The better question is, why? You lose out on the 'backflipping - 42%' skill on the character sheet. Nothing can replace that skill.

TMNT? I love the character creation process in that game.

Funny story. Many, many years ago at an Ambercon, Wujcik and a bunch of us gamers were sitting together for breakfast one morning. Out of the blue, someone blurted out, "Hey Erick, what do you think about a game that combined Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Amber?" Erick chuckled and said, "That would be one messed up game." It was pretty darn funny how he said it.

I'd say that if you wanted to do it with d20, defence bonuses should go to damage reduction and AC. Maybe +2 to AC for every 5 points of DR. It would be easiest, IMO, with Star Wars d20 (I know you just said d20, Jak, I'm only specifying my opinion). Since armour gives you DR, then it makes more sense (although natural armour shouldn't reduce your AC here). Plus, vitality and wounds system is closer to the original.

But, why do that? TMNT works fine the way it is, really.

I would love to see a new, official TMNT game in another system.

That said, if I were going to run a TMNT campaign now, I'd just use Feng Shui, with all of the player characters handled this way:

1. Pick an Archetype from the following list: Big Bruiser, Everyman Hero, Killer, Martial Artist, Ninja, Old Master, Thief, and Kid.

2. Pick a Transformed Animal package; modify archetype by attribute modifiers and all schticks.

3. Come up with an origin.

4. Play.

I too like TMNT as it is right now. Other than the "out of print" thing, I mean.

No doubt TMNT is the best thing to come out of Palladium in...well, ever.  But I would prefer a more streamlined skill system (yes, I've seen Pundy's suggestions) for starters.

I dunno, it was an idle thought that will probably subside and then bubble up again months down the road.

Although the TMNT+Amber mashup would indeed be _sick_.
