This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Just like the castle thread was for detailling places we either know exist in the castle, or we have used in our campaign; this thread is to do the same for the city.

So other than the docks and Bloody Bill's, what else do we know definitely exists in Amber City?

What interesting places and things have you put there in your campaign?

Since there must be a port, there must also be a customs house where ships carrying cargoes in and out pay their tariffs.

Since there must be a port, there must be warehouses, flophouses, and whorehouses.

Ok, have you got anything interesting in your Amber City's warehouses, flophouses or whorehouses?

Often most, it is the people you find in Amber that are the most interesting. In that manner, it is the whorehouses that really shine.

The warehouses and flophouses are predictable by comparison, if of good solid quality.

Most, if not all, of the Golden Circle kingdoms have some sort of embassy in the city.

I've played through a few formal dinners and balls at such locations, in particular during one game where my character was the son of Merlin sent to Amber for his education (and to get him away from Chaos politics and assassination attempts). Flora "adopted" him and frequently tried to set him up with the daughters of various diplomats and other significant social figures as part of her own political machinations.

Well, I don't know if this fit in the city, in the castle or wherever the hell, but there is the Unicorn's shrine somewhere around there.

Well if you have a dozen royals they will all want to add stuff. so we have a range of clubs nightclubs and the like we have a list of bars and taverns where players can pick up plot rumours. There has to be a fortification to guard the Harbour so we have the Harbour Master's Fortress. Then you need accommodation for Amber's  nobility, artisan's and merchants. Then you need to add an official residence for Amber's Mayor.

If you are being medieval then each trade needs a Guild House.

Again we have some city information on our version at http://www.jibbajibba.com/Amber/castle_amber

My Favourite is a nightclub called Emeralds that uses spells to deliver High fidelity Sound and lights.

I agree with jibbajibba.
I mean, princese are looking for privacy and fun. Caine is hanging around with girls and Random is a muscian.
So, I often focused on nightclubs, Depending on characters style. Since Random is the king I had a jazzy nightclub. A dark one with heavy smoke and strong alcohol inside.

We have Franks Fine Geisha's, however it's been closed for a bit since someone  decided to drop an elephant on it when Corwin was inside the building... :(

Many of the great kings and despots would 'convince' great philosophers and thinkers to move to their capital cities. I imagine Amber would collect the great minds of the Golden Circle and beyond to come to the Great Academy of Amber.

A zoo with exotic animals of shadow with sections sponsored by different elders showcasing their favourite creatures.

Hippodrome and Colosseum.

Art galleries and other projects sponsored by the elders. Their in-fighting would also extend bragging rights to the culture in the city.

Fountains and statues.

i have a plateau on a side of Kolvir where many of the lords have built their mansions. Sort of a posh suburb of the city.
