This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Just be sure to not call it "Amber" if there is no Amber in it.
false advertising & all, LOL.
But seriously Logos7, do your players think they will be playing 'Amber'?

No,

I'm still way beyond a short list for inviting, and as far as I know none of my potentials are familure with Amber.

That said If I run it 'by the book' per say I would probably call it amber, if I use an alternate setting, not so much.

The real question I had with Han is what is his stats? Strength and warfare and psyche don't seem to be a good match for him, that leaves endurance which doesn't seem like a good match for him either. I guess you could just leave him as a 'stuff' guy (i would be inclined to think a good stuff guy but maybe not). I surpose you could have him as a bought down with lots of goodies and stuff guy which would be the best fit in my own mind, but does that mean that the top level is going to be force sensitive and then not?

As for the one upping I was thinking more how luke seems to continuously beat people he shouldn't. I couldn't care less about about the troopers (that's more of a genre convention than a real comparison I feel) but when things like Yoda losing to palpatine and count dooku and all that stuff is happening it seems to jump the shark a little bit (im not sure if this is confined to the new bits in the old bits we all know that luke is never gonna win against vader, he just aint that good, even if vader is horribly fried and all that, thus he must change his method of attack, which seems kinda amberish.

That said Norse Mythology works pretty fricken well with little/no change (humans, Giant/Shapeshifters , Gods, generational dieties, infighting and all that seem to hit the idea pretty well. There's no clear analog to logrus or pattern but perhaps a more robust sorcery?)

Thanks for your input everyone, this is making this beautiful but unwieldy for the uninitiated game much more approachable.

Han Solo has warfare. How do you think he shoots these blasters and dodges the thai fighter shots? ;)

Also, I don't see yoda as losing, despite his old age.

Logos7;
Look into jibbajibba's skills rules, they may help your game.
Also, have you thought about asking jibbajibba if there is room in his upcoming Pbem game for a rookie Amber player? You are bound to gain much from a game with many Amber fans in it.
Why not?

Where do I find those skill rules?

And I will consider asking about the Pbem game, I've done Pbp but not Pbem before so I dont know if that will be a big issue or not, not even considering my newbieness.

jibbajibba

welcome to give the Pbem a stab.

But if you are running Star wars using Amber and you have issues with the attributes just um ...change them? dump W, P, E and S and go for Reflexes, Luck, Charm and WillPower, or have 6 stats and make 'em Strength , Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma :)
You are looking to use the core Amber Mechanics the trappings vis a vis the setting and even the powers and attributes are  interchangeable.

The Keys to Amber, the system not the setting, is the diceless mechanic, the attribute auction and the dynamic between PCs which is competative rather than cooperative.

Reflexes, Luck, Charm and Willpower are a pretty good grouping I think.

I surpose i now have to decide if star wars is competitive (I think the whole thing maybe, but it would be a star wars game where the guy playing vader is just as important to the game as the guy playing luke, which I think is cool.

Thanks for the invite for the Pbem, I will be taking you up on that.
