Just in case any of you were wondering, Erick is on vacation right now in Hong Kong.  I intentionally started the Forum now, when he was on break, so there'd be time for some buildup of topics before he dived in.

Once he gets back home, he should be around to post. God knows how often, I guess it'll depend on how active we keep this place, and how much we bug him to.

Just in case any of you were wondering, Erick is on vacation right now in Hong Kong...

I'm back from Hong Kong, at home in Shanghai, but my current activities are keeping me from being very active on-line. Just today, for example, I've got multiple business meetings and several hours worth of classes (I've been teaching game design at a Japanese game design studio here in Shanghai), and I need to be preparing for the classes right now...

It's likely that I won't become a regular participant here until I settle down with my new job, up north of San Francisco, sometime in January.

I don't know if I could ever go back to living in North America, after living in the 3rd world. I wouldn't be able to adjust...

My first job in Asia, back in 2002, was as "Visiting Lecturer in Game Design" at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. As a parting gift, in 2003, they gave me the title of "Adjunct Assistant Professor of Game Design" - which was just renewed through 2008. Last week I taught a couple of three-hour game design classes, advised some grad student projects, and gave a seminar. More details:

Since then I've taught game design quite a bit, mostly through my full-time job with Ubisoft in Shanghai, but also at other Chinese universities.

Right now I'm just pitching in for a Shanghai company, helping with some training for their young game design staff.

Well, I would have been. Unfortunately, the earthquake in Taiwan has put a kink in those plans (and crippled the internet connection with Asia and the rest of the world). I'll stop in when I can.

By early February, I should be working full-time in California. Hopefully with full net access.

As the 'Game Design Studio Manager' I was working with writers, game designers and creative directors who were working on:

1. Various versions of Ghost Recon (3 and 4), for PS2 and Xbox.
2. Splinter Cell Double Agent (#4 in the series) for Xbox360
3. Brothers in Arms (various) for PS2 and PSP.
4. An original, yet-to-be-announced Tom Clancy title for Xbox360.
5. Various incomplete original projects, ranging from MMOs, to horror action-adventure, to science fiction role-playing.

Basically, a lot of very cool games!

BTW, this IS the "all things Erick Wujcik" forum, so unless Erick poo-poos the idea, I think it'd be fair game to start threads about his video-game activities too, and not just his RPG stuff. Go nuts.
