This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Dworkin's sanity depends on the condition of the Pattern.  If it's intact, then he's just moderately crazy; if it's hurt then he's worse.

Dworkin is crazy because he has a very alien point of view.  You know how (in ADRP by the book) stuff can alter your perceptions, make the world seem friendlier or more hostile?  Dworkin's like that only on a completely different axis from good and bad.

What I find a little creepy is that Dworkin and a unicorn could have some offspring. I mean, I know he's a shapeshifter, but.... ick. ;)

In my games, he's Nuckin Futz.

It's always more interesting to players when a much more powerful NPC is mentally unstable, especially if he's unpredictable to boot.

I've been told that one of my specialties is roleplaying "Crazy Old dudes". So you can imagine what my Dworkin is like...

Hell, I'm still trying to decide whether the Unicorn is male or not.

She's always spoken of with the female pronoun in the books.

The Unicorn is dainty, beautiful and inspiring.

Dworkin is not.

But then, neither is a one-eyed snake.

Post PatternFall he's as sane as anyone else. What was done became Oberon's pattern, not his so he doesn't feel the effects of it anymore.

Croaker

Interesting idea.

What if dowrkin thus lost his connection to the pattern, with all the special powers that came with it?

Take it a step back, what if he's reverted to his old chaos self?

Malleus Aforethought

My take, Dworkin suffered the equivalent of brain damage after Martin's blood is spilled (basically, a bunch of neuron connections were destroyed or corrupted).
When Oberon repaired the Pattern, he repaired Dworkin's brain damage, by effectively cleansing the tissue and re-knitting the neurons back together. However, Oberon didn't have a perfect map to recreate the Pattern's state and had to fill in the blanks, so to speak, making subtle alterations. So Dworkin has a "healthy" brain, but one not quite the one he was used to. This could make Dworkin more or less schizophrenic as he wrestles with what he knows to be true vs. what his brain is telling him is reality.

RTrimmer

I once used a version where Oberon had had to patch the Pattern with parts of himself. Dworkin would occasionally think he was Oberon, scaring the PCs.
