This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Amber themed MUSHs

Do any of you play on an Amber themed MUSH/MUD/MUCK?

AmberMUSH was great until it died a slow, slow agonizing death because of staff apathy. (And if you looked at my username and said 'hmm'... yes, I am the player of Crimson Cragvale.)

Patternfall was cool but I never really played there much.

Shadow(Shadow Storm?)MUSH was pretty short lived. I played Pyrus there.

Chronicles of Amber had an awesome first run and is getting ready (i.e. setting up) for another run. In the first run I played Luke, Vahe, Gabriel and assortment of staff/non-staff NPCs. *edit* And, duh, I was Crim as staff.

Road to Amber is alright. The code system is a little too complex in that there's code for /everything/. And I, personally, find it a little confusing to keep track of everything. I am intrigued, however, by the hierarchy of their staff system. Currently the only character I have there is Eis but because of RL I don't get to play him much currently.

Are there any I missed? Surely there are...

I would argue AmberMUSH died because of its absolute consent design. It is a seriously double-edge sword that ended up bleeding the game dry.

Never tried any of the other Amber games.

(And I also tried Amber about 14 years ago... Christoph here. Boy, remembering some of my early days MU*ing... (cringe))
This forum is great in that the moderators aren\'t jack-booted fascists.

Unfortunately, this forum is filled with total a-holes, including a bunch of rape culture enabling dillholes.

So embracing the \'no X is better than bad X,\' I\'m out of here. If you need to find me I\'m sure you can.

Who did you play? A lot of the 'dino' names stuck around as legends... I'm wondering if I've ever heard of you.

I can agree with that, yes. The consent rules there often made me pound a fist into my desk. Especially when I was playing a blood thirsty necromancer who had the stats and powers to totally decimate when he had to. Now, I never asked for death... but there were a few times I asked for something really nasty. Sometimes you'd get a nice person who'd play along and other times you'd get someone that was totally revolted and threatened to turn you into staff for being 'too gruesome'. It probably didn't help that Crimson's mentor was Romneous.

Another problem I found on AmberMUSH was that TS (tiny sex) ran /rampant/. There's nothing wrong with a little TS now and then (personally I abstain. Don't like it) but when that's your only goal when you log on that's just... ugh. Especially when the playerbase is dwindling. Makes it hard for the people that actually log on to play Amber to find RP.

Astraeos

Crim,
Man it's good to 'see' you.  I played on the first Chronicles and have a couple of active characters on The Road.  I have already set up a character for the second Chronicles.  Look me up sometime.

Sargon

It wasn't a mush, but I did try running an amber drpg themed irc rp channel called "Hotel Amber."  Sadly, Hotel Amber ( or HA as we called it)only lasted for 6 months or so.
"Uncle Sargon, how can I traverse shadow the "royal way?"
"It's easy, instead of riding your usual mount you ride Flora.  Just remember that others have been there first, lots of others...."
