This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ok, I'll admit that I created this forum as my own personal shrine to Amber and Erick Wujcik; but that said, I can't think I'm alone in this (I know I'm not, given that there are a few others here who are regularly posting) and I'd love for this forum to get a bit more activity.

It'd be great if Erick could write more often, but if he doesn't have the time, we can't exactly push him to do so.

But what we can do is each of us spend a bit more time advertising this site in other Amber-related fora, on RPG.net, on mailing lists, etc, and try to keep up a certain volume of thread-starting here to get the momentum going. One would think that the officially sanctioned Erick-wujcik fan forum should end up becoming the natural place for Amber gamers to post on, and that's what I'd love to see happening here.

Either way, even if its just little old me writing thoughts and ideas about Amber here, I'm not going to stop the forum or anything. But I happen to think the place can get more action than its getting. Let's try to make that happen!

Well, there WERE several other places already running for people to post Amber-related stuff before this started.  The Amber mailing list is mostly quiet, but there are several livejournals, and the Shadows of Amber bulletin board isn't totally dead.

In my experience, this is now the most active forum for Amber discussion on the 'net.  (I don't read RPGnet.  Is there Amber discussion going on there?)  What more do you want?

There's not much Amber that I've seen on RPG.net.  Just a few "what system?" threads scattered around.

Oh, and "hello".

I used to be active here, but most threads aren't as newbie friendly anymore. I still read pretty much everything, but can't comment on much since I haven't even finished reading all the rules yet.

An Amber campaign is in the far future for me right now, so I have to spend my little bit of reading time on the games we're playing now and plan to play next.

I go in streaks on any message board. At first there is a flurry of activity and then it seems to die out a bit as people have said much of what they have to say. Most of the message boards out there seem to have the same basic issues, but overall I think yours has a good chance of survival because Eric also posts here.

The problem I have with Amber boards in general is two-fold. First, there always seem to be posters who want to blow up the game system and replace it with something that isn't ADRP. Second, we may come up with wonderful tweaks and house rules but they never become "official" and the people working on ADRP 2E may not even read these boards. This is more of a personal frustration and not the fault of these boards.

Also, I think you have done a great job of starting threads recently, but they just happen to be topics that don't jump out at me much. My posting will be minimal until I come up with another interesting topic or until some topic happens to really attract my attention.

Keep up the good work!

Dunno. Is "frustrated" a term that's too harsh? I certainly don't mean to be insulting. :(

As far as those who want to totally redesign ADRP, I get frustrated because many of their ideas don't fit the style of game that I want to run. I'm not really interested in wholesale changes, but minor tweaks and edits and refinements to improve the game; I wish there was an alternate "Amber RPG that isn't ADRP" forum for them to express their creativity because they have some great ideas but often these ideas don't really fit the preexisting ADRP model. (This goes for d20 Amber, GURPS Amber, Nobilis Amber, Unisystem Amber, or whatever.) I just find it frustrating to find "I hate ADRP" posts in the middle of an "Official Amber DRPG and Erick Wujcik" forum. :raise:

I'd like to see 2E ADRP be created and would like to think that discussions we might have on some board somewhere might allow us to have input along the way. Knowing that the new editors (?) of ADRP may not ever read the boards where I post is frustrating because I feel sort of like a lot of creative energy is wasted along the way.

I've been thinking a lot since I posted this a few hours ago, and I'm not entirely certain that I agree with myself.

I guess I'm not really anti other systems as much as I dislike having others try to change ADRP. I know that I have run Amber games using rules other than ADRP, so I would certainly hate to tell others not to do it. Indeed, some of those games were as entertaining as ADRP games even if they were run by a different philosophy. They were still fun games, they were still Amber, and I think that they are worth discussing on these boards as long as it's clear that they are alternate systems and not an "improvement".

I must just be crabby today. :(

Given that my thread is really the only one that approaches what you're talking about, I'll address this. It's not like I said I hate the Amber system or said it needs "improvement." It seems rather, I dunno the right word, but let's use "insecure," in regards to a game itself, to feel that a thread discussing the use of Amber tropes in other games is somehow bashing ADRP. The ADRP system is not my cup of tea, but I find the book itself incredibly useful. Given there was more traffic on this thread crabbing about my poor, well-intentioned, and unused thread than on that thread itself (it seems), I don't see my attempt as somehow shaking the pillars of Heaven in the ADRP realm.
