Brand's Madness

Reading through Knight of Shadows right now, and if it's been brought up in either of the ADRPG books forgive me.

In the books Brand went mad from the getting the Trump powers through the Fount at the Keep of the Four Worlds. What if he actually went mad from walking the Logrus? We know from Merlin that it causes a temporary insanity in people, and from Corwin we know that Brand was a little unhinged in the first place.

It could explain why he's half black/white in the Undershadow. We never saw Dara there. Or could it be that he walked the Pattern first and then tried the Logrus?

just some thoughts...

I am taking others comments, I won't complain if anyone says anything, just if you don't :)

That is a very interesting concept. Most likely in the Merlin series, someone would have mentioned seeing him walk the Logrus but at the same time would they have kept it a secret from Merlin. The possiblitly is quite open.

int eh merlin series isn;t stated that only Merlin carries the two images logrus and pattern. It might be Merlin making an assumption of course...

I think Brand was always at least a little unhinged.

But you raise an interesting point: what other reasons might there be as to why he'd show up half-black half-white in the undershadow?

Malleus Aforethought

One of the assumptions for my current campaign is that it safe (with the proper bloodline) to take Pattern after Logrus, but that doing the other way around corrupts the image of the Pattern you carry. And thus Brand's madness. I plan on using this with a couple of other NPCs, possibly Mirelle, a character that has always fascinated me, despite appearing solely in a genealogy, as far as I recall. I consider the Fount to be a potent Sorcery source and little more. All of the things that Brand could do can be explained with advanced Pattern and Trump powers. The Fount just seems like a big deus ex machina which I dislike on principle.
