This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

« on: January 25, 2010, 12:47:46 PM »
Please don't forget that the deadline for early registration and game submission is this Friday, January 29th.

If you're planning on attending and/or running a game, please register and submit your games this week.  As always, we need all the games we can get, so if you are waiting to find out if we need another game or two, the answer is: Yes, yes we do. :)

Ambercon US 2010 Registration and Game Submission
« Reply #1 on: January 31, 2010, 04:42:41 PM »
Hello everyone!

Ambercon US 2010 / XXI is getting closer!  We've got 68 people registered, which is lower than normal, and we're short 15 or more games, depending on how many people register late.

If you're a regular or recent attendee, well, you know what the deal is. :)  We understand we've crunched the timeline, and we apologize for rushing people, but...

If you haven't been to Ambercon US in a while, or ever, please register and/or submit your games soon.  The game scheduling and selection is different than it was years ago, and different from most other rpg conventions.  The entire reason for ACUS is to play games all weekend long, so we need enough games for everyone in all game slots.  We hope to post the gamebook in three weeks, so that everyone can choose what games they want to play in.  Then we'll use those choices to assign people to games.  Last year, 90% of the game assignments were 1st choices, about another 8% were 2nd choices.  Then we like the players and GMs to have two to four weeks before the con to prepare characters and scenarios.  So clearly, we need the basic game information in advance.

ALL and ANY Amber-related (in ANY way) games are very, very welcome, no matter how different from the game(s) depicted in the Amber and Shadow Knight rulebooks.  No matter how traditional or strange or non-mainstream your Amber game is, it's welcome and you'll find enthusiastic players.  You will likely be very surprised at the range of Amber games that are available.  (For example, this year there are two Amber/Exalted games, and two Firefly and one Venture Bros. game(s) that will be run with rules/mechanics similar to the ADRPG.)  Small single-session LARPs are common, based either on the Amber setting or using the ADRPG rules and/or techniques.

Any and all diceless games are also welcome, Nobilis, Primetime Adventures, or ANY kind of free-form game that doesn't use dice, cards, or other randomizers.  PTA is a favorite game of many attendees, as are games based on the Everway fortune deck.

There's also a strong (if small in some years) Indie RPG presence, a homebrew 2d6 system for WWII games, Amberized games based on Dogs in the Vineyard, In a Wicked Age, the Mountain Witch, Sea Dracula, Spirit of the Century, and many others have been played in recent years.
