This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A Dilemma
« on: February 17, 2014, 08:50:31 AM »
Ok I've bean running an Amber off and on for a bit over a year, due to participation their is a bit of a points spreed ranging from 175 to up over 200 the main arcs are tied up and I've got a few side stories to tie up that will bring my regulars to level points, now I have a player who want's to join, they have a rocking concept and some of my regulars want to try new characters.

due to the off again on again nature of my current game I've run out the stories for now, I've got other Amber that don't suit the current batch of characters but could suit some of the concepts being thrown about.

should I put my current game on Hiatus and risk it becoming permanent to start an alternative game or take a few weeks to a month off and get to writing something that can slip a starting character in to the existing game?

Maybe it's time to start a Lords of Olympus or a Lords of Gossamer & Shadow campaign? :)

Personally, sir brad, I would tie up the game you're doing and get ready to start an entirely new one. If you put it on hold, it will more than likely just die anyway.

Bring the old PCs into the new game as recognisable NPCs and it'll be great fun.

What about the Delemea? Did you stat it up? What does it look like? Can I use it in my OSR game?

I second Panjumanju. Since the main stuff is finished the secondary threads don't really matter. Not every mystery has to be solved and every foe defeated.
Run another session as a denoument. Pin a couple medals on their chests and let the characters move to a place where they can get some rest. (And at the last moment have a woman turn to her lover and say "I'm pregnant.")

Spend the next month working up concepts and ideas for the new campaign. That's where your best energy and time should be used.

Sorry my Dyslexia had bean a bit bad of late and Spell Check wasn't working too good. in the current game everyone likes (at worst, most love) their characters, but for now I've run out of story, I've got Easter Eggs in place but their not ready to hatch.

to use a Book analogy I've just finished a series of Novels and am tieing up the supporting short stories and novellas. every body wants to to see the next series, but It's not ready to be written yet. the side stories should get every one who's staying on level pegging points wise for the start of the next series.

ATM I'm a player in a LoO game and don't want to step on that GM's toes by starting an other LoO game.

the other potential campaign will let me use stories that that I couldn't use with the current characters and stuff about the new character concepts have given me ideas for stuff to do with them.

I would just string those 'side-stories' through the course of the next game, even though it's with different characters, because the players would all recognise the continuity. I see a lot of pros for starting a new game here that's a TV-season-like continuation of the last, and not a lot of cons.

I'm a fan of big long campaigns, but there comes a time when you have to also know when to end on a high note.
If you really can't think of how to re-invent your campaign to reinvigorate it, its better to end it, than to have it peter out into irrelevance.

I've found this to be particularly true with Diceless games.
