This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). ok. i have vornheim. it is awesome. that said, bog standard dnd doesn't really seem to do it justice. is there a clone (other than lotfp, which i think also fails in this regard) that might "do" vornheim better? if so, what is it? what about storygames like dungeon world? all suggestions will be entertained.

Zak S

I wrote Vornheim. It should work well with any fantasy system I can think of except Dungeon World because Dungeon World explicitly asks people to select stupid names for their PCs from a stupid list.

Then you might be good.

I personally have found Dungeon World unsatisfactory for any game, but tastes vary.

I suggest: C&C, Basic D&D with extra AD&D classes and spells, LOTFP, Warhammer or Rolemaster.

Here are some classes you can use...

Id go with either WHFRPG 1st edition or Cadwallon.

cool. thanks for the classes. also, while i had considered cnc or basic fantasy, warhammer and rolemaster hadn't even occurred to me.

You know, I think Talislanta would be a good fit.

The Butcher

Whatever edition of D&D you're most comfortable with. I personally think that OD&D (and its OSR heirs, Swords & Wizardry and Delving Deeper) go particularly well with the sheer gonzo of it all.

Sheer genius. Talislanta is one of these games I've always wanted to run but can never quite commit to it because there's so much good stuff that seems like an easier sell to my groups. Vornheim and Talislanta sounds like a match made in heaven. Does Zak know about Talislanta?

Also outside the D&Dsphere, I'd consider WFRP. Place it somewhere outside the Empire, like a Border Princedom, make Vorn a half-forgotten Law god, paint most of the weirdness as a Chaos infestation, and watch a group of zealous Sigmarites go through town to "cleanse" it like an open-air nest of Chaos. Maybe not quite what Zak intended, but I guess it would be fun in a hack-and-slash way.

I run Mordheim with Warhammer Fantasy 1e so I guess Vornheim would work great with Zweihander. :)

I know two things about Talislanta:

The "No elves" ads.

It's supposedly Jack Vance-y.

Sounds good to me.

I still remember those adds, and I haven't seen them in over 20 years.

It's free on the Internet now; I think you might dig it or at least find something to mine from it.

I love to see how doing Vornheim would work through Cadwallon's baroque rules. The temperaments of the various neighborhoods and such.
