Torg Eternity

Dan, maybe you can help me.

I'm only vaguely familiar with the old Torg and even though I've read through the new one, something keeps eluding me.

Before the reality bridges dropped, the other realities had agents operating on Core Earth (here), right? How did those agents get here (and back)? How long was this invasion planned? Do the other realities meet-up on other earths, or do they each come from 'pure' worlds of their cosms (and if so, how did they coordinate the invasion)?

I just feel like maybe Eternity cut out some valuable fluff that would make the whole thing set in my mind a bit better.

I forget how long the invasion was planned, but the agents dropped in via mini-maelstrom bridges called "dimthreads". The invaders came from realities they'd already conquered. As for coordination, I think the Darkness Devices can communicate with each other, but I don't recall for sure.

HappyDaze:
Thanks. I'll keep looking for more on what you've given me.

I know I'm responding to a three-and-a-half year old thread, but for the sake of others stumbling across this...

In some cases (but not all) agents were dropped on earth and elsewhere via "dimthreads" created by the Darkness Device.  In original Torg, there were intentionally crafted hybrid realities between the invaders (the Land Below, Berlin), and there was implied at least some direct communication between Darkness Devices as well, but it was also explicit that these agents would travel via dimthread and carry messages.  Once on earth, Ravagons were a popular messenger choice, as dimthread creation took more resources (although faster and more reliable).

While Eternity changes a lot of things about the setting, it also leaves out a bunch of stuff.  The Living Land is (as of pre-Orrorsh release anyway) possibly the worst, with no mention made to the nature of the edeinos' religion and its actual tenants, which is sad given how much faith is a defining feature of the setting.  Aysle is also given short shift in detailing how its disc-like cosm operates.  Tharkholdu reproduction is cut from the Tharkhold sourcebook. On the flipside, the Living Land tries to offer more than just dinosaurs now, Aylse's magic system is streamlined (whether that's a feature or not is somewhat subjective), and Tharkhold is actually even more interesting than before (in my opinion).

My advice to people who are curious about Torg is to switch to 2ed, but keep all those lovely 1ed books for flavor and tone and filling in the gaps, because the best Torg game is somewhere in blending the two.
