Title: Savage Worlds Mini Settings SWADE
Post by: GeekyBugle on August 12, 2022, 06:15:07 PM
This is my review of the book Savage Worlds Mini Settings from Pinnacle.

Some interesting bits, the settings are a bit sparse (to be expected when you cram 4 settings in 48 pages).

Way too much attention is spent on the art and not enough on the formatting of the product.

I'll explain myself: They used text boxes to formatt it (either in LaTex or some other software), and they overlap constantly leaving you to guess (or cheat by copying the text into a word processor document) as to what is written.

For 48 pages you pay $7.00 US, not cheap and to get that kind of issues? I would expect them from a noob small publisher not from one of the big boys.

Well, never buying ANYTHING from Pinnacle ever again.

Yeah that book should've been free. It's basically an advertisement for future projects

Page number reference? I'm not seeing that.

If it's a pdf, it could be an issue of what reader GB is using.

It's possible. However, a different poster raised a similar complaint about the SWADE fantasy companion. It's possible they're using the same viewer. It's also possible that both individuals are more particular about book formatting and layout than I am.

I'm using the system document viewer of Mint Linux (don't remember the name), I never have problems with 99.99% of the pdfs I buy. When I had some issue and I had access to the document it was usually a docx where they used text boxes.

More than likely they used MS Office or some other non standards compliant software that uses text boxes.

Wow. I am shocked at the notion that Pinnacle might have used MS Office, like every major North American company. If it's true, that would be a scandalous lack of professionalism.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that the formatting was jacked up on your viewer. But come on, man. Really? Practically every major company uses MS Office to write documents. They save them as PDFs to prevent editing, and then use Adobe to read PDFs.

Most creators use a dedicated formatting program, even the aces on strong don't really use office and the ones that do usually suffer for it
