This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: boulet;443607I must have read wrong but I was pretty sure that you weren't the kind of guy who likes to play at a LGS. Opened you chakras didn't you?

I have ideas about entering the wider world.  I've made a couple of attempts, but they did not work out. Still, every six months or so I get the itch. Sadly, though, I'm likely to run screaming back into my hole the first time someone speaks to me.

Quote from: Aos;443571Hey, I think we use the same lgs (Active Imaginations). Are they cool with people running stuff they don't sell? I've thought of putting together something there, but they don't sell anything I want to play (i.e.,  S&W WB, Starbalzers ect...).
Also,  tangentally speaking , after their move, I actually had trouble finding them while using a GPS. It was kind of an adventure, really.

Yes! Actually they're quite friendly to whatever anyone wants to play, and Rob often takes my advice on what to stock (been suggesting he see if he can get Frog God stuff in, for example). They do stock Starblazers in when they can get it, and will special order just about anything. I think S&W isn't in stock mainly because none of the editions currently out are in mass distribution (yet) but I could be wrong. I've asked Rob to find it, though. Getting a copy or two on the shelves gives it street cred and makes the S&W game look a little less crazy to the indigenes.

The new AI location is hard to find at first (I'm guessing you did find it eventually)....feels more like a Fallout expedition (well, less so now but it did at the start). You basically go behind the shopping complex its located in on the NW corner of San Mateo and Montgomery, to the NW corner (north side) of the building in the rear....the entrance is directly across from the DMV building, and they have a marquee style sign out front now. Then you go against your better judgement and head down a long hallway in to an abandoned mall complex (other businesses will be opening soon) where it is clear Dawn of the Dead could be filmed, then veer left and look for the old movie theatre that is now AI.

On the plus side, they now have a full-service food court/kitchen and I think are doing well providing actual meals. I've been meeting there on Wednesdays for about three years, and its pretty convenient....more so for me than trying to squeeze a large gaming group in to my modest townhome way out near Tijeras!

Ha ha. I did find AI and I also thought the minmall looked like the set of a zombie movie.
Thanks for the detailed answer.

Quote from: camazotz;443547she's always wanted to GM but found previous efforts with 3.5/PF/4E to be fairly daunting and way too heavy on the management of minutiae, but she loves running S&W, which allows the right level of detail and flexibility for her.

That great, as for myself I actually ran GURPS from 1988 to 2010. I haven't abandoned it but I decided to run a pair of Swords & Wizardry campaigns to get back into the D&D mode so to speak. While I like the detail and flow of GURPS, it takes time to resolve even simple combat.  I have to admit that running S&W is a great chance of pace both in managing the game and preparing.

Because I never strayed far from the D&D style fantasy roots of my campaign it was easy to pick up where I left off when I quit using AD&D as my primary system in 1986.

Quote from: camazotz;443547EDIT: As long as I'm talking about the Wilderlands I should also mention that I've quite liked both Points of Light books from Goodman, which it looks like you also authored. In fact, Supplement VI was kind of like an extra bonus as I noticed stylistic tethers between those books and this one (i.e. myrmidons). Kudos!

You are correct that there is a heavy similarity in style.

For a long time I didn't know if ever get a license from Judges Guild so I created an alternative set of notes with all the Judges Guild elements stripped out or renamed to equivalents. For example I use Eastgate instead of City-State.  Each of the PoL setting represent situations that could be found in the Majestic Wildlerlands although to date only one, Acheron, was taken directly from something that happened in my campaign. Acheron is actually what the home plane of Set looks like my Majestic Wilderlands.

Along with that I have a few friends that contributed a lot to the Majestic Wilderlands and they are free to use much of my material in their own games. Along the way a couple of things got renamed like Delaquain for Mitra. So I used the new names for the PoL modules.

Rob,
I bought this last week, read it last night. I'm not much for classic fantasy, but I really liked this supplement, especially the variant character classes. Eventually, I'm going to run a (more or less) straight up B/X game and I think that I will incorporate a lot of the stuff from this book when I do.
Thanks for making it, and I'm sorry it took me so long to get to it.

Anyway, this thing is obscenely cheap on lulu. Everyone should just fucking get a copy.

FWIW, I have devised the perfect reading/posting strategy for dealing with the glut of politics, rpg.net discussions and over sensitive grognards. Careful observation of my posting activity over the next several days will reveal my secret to all.

Appreciate the compliment and good luck with your B/X campaign.

Let me know if you have any questions that I can answer.
