Quote from: estar;368138You will see that with the Majestic Wilderlands where I use the rule section to hit you with little doses of the setting and then you get to the final section that ties it all together.
Can't wait! :)

Quote from: estar;368139No I did not, although I did proof checked the CSIO Map. I did all the maps for the three Goodman Games remakes; Thieves of Badabaskor (which I wrote), Citadel of Fire, and Dark Tower.
Heh. You got me fooled! :D

Definitely got a surge in sales going, again thanks for the review.

Great review, Pundit - thanks very much for writing it.  I went out and blew seven bucks willy nilly :D to get the Majestic Wilderlands, and also downloaded the free copies of S&W too - excellent stuff.

I've been a huge fan of the Wilderlands since the early JG books - there was something always really compelling about wandering round those hex maps exploring stuff, checking out those Ravaged Ruins and Lurid Lairs.  Rob seems to have captured a bit of that excitement in Majestic Wilderlands - I read it with a feeling very similar to when first leafing through Greyhawk or Arduin.  A real nostalgia trip!

Cheers,

Sarah

Quote from: Benoist;368166LOL Nice try. I did mention that I would purchase it in the near future earlier, though you are right in the sense that it prompted me to order the work "now" as opposed to "a few weeks from now". So there was a little bump. Perhaps not the alpha male bump you were confident I was confirming here, though. ;)

Its too late for you to try to take it back now.

You're very welcome, and thanks for re-confirming the Pundit Bump; so much for Benoist's attempted backtracking when he realized he was about to admit I was influential.

Coming in slightly late, but this is a solid supplement, with much to interest me as a personal interpretation of a campaign setting I also like, but probably went in complete opposite directions with. Beyond the actual content, what fascinates me about similar products the most (and what I find the most useful in the long run) is the thought processes that contributed to their growth. As such, much like Carcosa or Dave Arneson's First Fantasy Campaign, The Majestic Wilderlands as a collection of ideas about gaming is probably ideal. I will never run Rob's campaign, since I have my own, but there are a lot of conclusions to draw from it. (It is also a physically pretty publication - I got the cover with the 19th c. historicist paintings).

As a side note, it is interesting how we have both arrived at a hex size of 12.5 miles (or in my case, 20 m) more or less independently. It seems to be a very practical scale to make a wilderness section have a lot of small-scale content, but still give the players a feeling of long journeys. Granted, my current setting is the size of 3x3 quarter-sized maps, making for a total playing area of 2.5 Wilderlands campaign maps.
Now with a Zine!

Just got the physical copy in through rpgnow's POD option, and am very pleased; had to add my two cents here! This is my fourth physical Swords & Wizardry purchase since I got hooked by the "Complete" edition from Frog God, and well worth it (plus a very affordable price tag for the print copy). Great selection of class, race and rule options, lots of inspiration in the Wilderlands setting, very solid product all around, will definitely be using it at future S&W sessions.

Thanks for sharing this!

I should note that, within a month's time, I will be starting my new Forgotten Realms D&D campaign, which will be using the skeleton of the Rules Cyclopedia with the Majestic Wilderlands rules overtop it.  So I'll finally be getting to test out this baby in action.

I would love to know how that goes, mate. I can't hear enough about other people's D&D games.
I can't wait to see how that plays out for you.

Appreciate the compliment Camazotz and hope you have fun using it.

@Pundit, likewise looking forward to your campaign report.

@Benoist, you ever going to finish your in-depth review, nudge, nudge ;)

My wife's been running a S&W campaign every other week since I introduced her to the game last month; we started session 3 yesterday and she had previously absconded with Supplement VI. I'm pretty sure we're seeing a Myrmidon in action as a nemesis, and possibly some other features as we trekked around in the wilderlands. It's fun watching her get in to a system from before her time, she's always wanted to GM but found previous efforts with 3.5/PF/4E to be fairly daunting and way too heavy on the management of minutiae, but she loves running S&W, which allows the right level of detail and flexibility for her. People in the FLGS where we meet each week ask what she's got going and she delights in telling them "Zero Edition D&D" and confusing the hell out of the younger gamers especially, who appear to think the hobby started in 2001.

Now I just need to figure out when I can squeeze my own S&W game in...

EDIT: As long as I'm talking about the Wilderlands I should also mention that I've quite liked both Points of Light books from Goodman, which it looks like you also authored. In fact, Supplement VI was kind of like an extra bonus as I noticed stylistic tethers between those books and this one (i.e. myrmidons). Kudos!

Hey, I think we use the same lgs (Active Imaginations). Are they cool with people running stuff they don't sell? I've thought of putting together something there, but they don't sell anything I want to play (i.e.,  S&W WB, Starbalzers ect...).
Also,  tangentally speaking , after their move, I actually had trouble finding them while using a GPS. It was kind of an adventure, really.

I must have read wrong but I was pretty sure that you weren't the kind of guy who likes to play at a LGS. Opened you chakras didn't you?
