Hiring Mike Mearls shows that a certain larger company has ambitions that require someone who actually knows something about RPGs, unlike WotC.

Welcome to Earth Sector!

Earth Sector is an extension of Independence Games' Clement Sector setting. For those familiar with the Clement Sector setting, Earth Sector is set in Earth Sector in 2350 after the Conduit Collapse in 2331. Earth Sector, while it can be played without knowledge of or familiarity with the Clement Sector setting, is best experienced if you are conversant with the full Clement Sector story and the rules presented in Clement Sector Third Edition.

Earth Sector is its own setting united with Clement Sector by the past background before 2331 and then branching off in a new direction afterward. This is the first book in that adventure.

Whereas Clement Sector was a collection of independent worlds, Earth Sector is a collection of worlds colonized by the nations of Earth and held by those nations. In some places, that hold is becoming tenuous, but they are still controlled by the home nation.

This book contains new uplifts and information for each of the nations of Earth, how they get along, and trade information based on the Trade Characteristics presented in Bounded Fortune.

In Clement Sector, there are no living aliens. In Earth Sector, there are two low tech alien races which have been located and rumors of more aliens nearby.

It's a new adventure. Join us!

As for racism in Conan stories...guess what in any time period where Conan-like things were happening everyone was very racist.  I am fine with calling Conan and REH racists.  I am also fine with reading and enjoying his stories more now than ever.

Of course REH was flawed in his examination of Africa and how it was functioning in his time (if we assume the character's statements are a metaphor for what Howard was seeing-or thought he saw in the real world).  If only he could see now how the continent has become a shining beacon of civilization and technological advancement.  Too bad he died before he could witness that.

I think this falls into a cycle I have seen going around lately....1)Why are you complaining...there is no problem happening.  2)Okay there is a thing happening, but it has always happened.  3)So the thing is happening and it is a great and wonderful thing.  4) The thing you are complaining about is so wonderful you are a terrible person to complain about it.

I think most gamers realize the stage 1 of the infestation has begun and are clamoring loudly to prevent the later stages.  If it was a change made in vacuum it might mean nothing.  Given the GW BLM stance...it looks more like another harbinger rather than a simple retcon.

Media and Inspiration / Paramount Kills Dungeons & Dra...

Things just seem to be getting better and better for Wizards of the Coast.  Paramount plus isn't going forward with the live action D&D show, although I have no doubt it would have been an awful trainwreck
anyway.

Quote from: Insane Nerd Ramblings on May 31, 2024, 08:59:18 AMI saw this a short while ago on ZuckBook and had to share it because...it's just...something else. As others have said, these halfwits are turning RPGs into 'Maoist Struggle Sessions'. If your whole concept of playing (or DMing) D&D is 'lessons', you're not only a fucking asshole, you're a drooling imbecile that would follow any halfwit strongman cause you probably don't have an internal monologue. These people are, honest to God, fucking cancerous. They should be treated like tumorous growths and not allowed to break containment to infect other games (though we know that's already happened as the vectors for infection have been there for years).

I would ban this loser from my table so fast the sonic boom would break windows. A game is no place for this kind of recruiting bullshit.

It all becomes clearer when you realize that this is a religion, and many people are determined to "take captive every thought to make it obedient to" the Spirit of the Age.

A+ thread title. F- for Gene Martin for using D&D as a mechanism for propaganda. Idiots like him will be the first against the wall when the executions begin.

This comes as no surprise at all. Commies look to indoctrinate through everything they do. Why would gaming be any different? Best to avoid such idiots and let them play with each other.

Quote from: GeekyBugle on May 30, 2024, 09:32:26 PMMake it work with an engine that's "Classic D&Dish"
Make it so it plays close to "Classic D&Dish"
In concrete terms.  What does that mean in concrete terms?  What does it mean for something to play close to Classic D&Dish?
It is not complicated. We have a bunch of out-of-print classic D&D modules that represent the expectation of how classic D&D plays.

If you need a refresher as to what that list is.
https://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/modcode.html

We have a bunch of out of print editions that represent the expectation of classic D&D mechanics.
https://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/rulebooks.html

We have two "hacks" that illustrate how one can take the d20 SRD or the 5e SRD and strip out the newer mechanics, leaving a set of rules that is a hop and a skip from a particular classic edition.

https://www.knights-n-knaves.com/
https://www.basicfantasy.org/

Both hacks relied on open content under open licenses, meaning that anybody with an idea has the same access to the IP as anybody already publishing or sharing material based on this body of work.

Moreso, thanks to publishers like the one below, people have good examples of how to play with the themes of the above body of work using different mechanics. Or use the mechanics of the above body of work to handle different themes.

https://sine-nomine-publishing.myshopify.com/
https://goodman-games.com/dungeon-crawl-classics-rpg/
https://freeleaguepublishing.com/shop/mork-borg/
https://dungeon-world.com/

Now is any of this unclear? Too complicated to understand? Hard to follow?

What this does mean that it is work. You will have to do some reading on various items from the above body of works to understand what classic D&Dish means. Understand a bit of how it was developed to see where various authors are coming from, particularly folks like Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax. It is not hard, but it is work, not something that boils down to a snappy quip, a catchy marketing blurb or even a bullet list.
