This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Oh man, that story was kind of a nightmare situation.  I'd look it up to get more details, but I'm worried that I also have combined or mixed different incidents, because that's the issue.

You don't want to look it up in case you were wrong about it?  ??? I think you should look it up. I also think you should stop with the Whataboutism unless you have some actual evidence of disparity, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Just checked ENW - I could not find a thread about this, though there is one about number of visitors at Gencon, whereas sexual harrassment that fits The Narrative, like Bill Webb's behaviour, always gets tons of attention. I think the Woke are an awful lot more hypocritical than the non-Woke.

Looks like the new DC/Discovery directives are just as spineless and/or drunk with the koolaid as the previous.

Ok OSE fanboys and girls, I'll check it out for myself.

I placed an order for the Classic Fantasy Rules Tome.  I want to compare B/X via OSE, to OD&D via White Box FMAG, and Holmes Basic via Blueholme Prentice.  I also have the 1E AD&D Core books on hand.  I've been curious about B/X, because it is the recipient of tons of nostalgic affection, online.  I hope its awesome.  I'm sure it probably is.

I do hope Trump runs again and wins.

I'll happily vote for him again. The only time I've ever voted is during the 2020 elections, and I voted straight Red just to spite the Dems.
I have no interest in playing "pick the asshole" between Dems and Repubs now, but I'll vote for the Don just because he throws such a monkey wrench in the establishment gears.

Oh, I remember seeing that one in the store when it was brand new. I loved the Kaluta covers, and nearly bought it. But then, I couldn't figure out what kind of game was expected based on the flipping through it. It seemed wordy more than anything.

Greetings!

I have the ARIA book! The Blue one. I think they also had a Red book, but I didn't get that one. The Blue ARIA book is all about tribes, governments, and kingdom building, as well as society, economics, and religion.

The book has some very cool and interesting ideas, and certainly some interesting presentation and idea development. Definitely a good book for inspiration, ideas, and just "thought chewies".

The ARIA downfall is that they try to construct their own RPG, and try too hard to "Not Be Some Other Game" in which they scrupulously avoid standard terminology for dozens of concepts and ideas, and instead slot in far more obscure terms. Then, they create weird subsystems with crazy names, and much of it gets lost in wordy, arcane jargon.

At the time, I was glad to buy it for inspiration, but there's some very good reasons why D&D is KING, and so many "Indie Games" are ultimately mediocre and are doomed to failure and obscurity. ARIA is a good example of why so many "Indie Games" ultimately fail.

Greetings!

Do various miniatures inspire creatures, environments, and adventures for your campaign?

I recently bought a dozen Giant Fly miniatures. For a standard sized Human, these Giant Flies are probably the size of a large medicine ball. I'm guessing about 50 to 100 pounds in weight. They are like 22mm scale, sized for 32mm scale, so that seems about the approximate dimensions. Maybe the size of a Medium-sized dog, but of course, being FLIES. *Laughing* Anyhow, each of them comes mounted on a clear plastic "Flying Stand" with a clear base. They are fucking very cool looking.

It has definitely inspired me to write up some stats and a profile for them, and to include them as creatures in my campaign world.

The girls are going to shriek over these things for sure! *Laughing*

Pen and Paper Roleplaying Games (RPGs) Discussion / Re: VENGER CON II
« Last post by HappyDaze on Today at 12:43:33 AM »
The convention info has been updated.  The OSR award show, held each year at VENGER CON, will be called The Tentacular!  I'll be asking for volunteer judges and submissions at some point next Spring.  I'm thinking each celebration of The Tentacular will be for OSR products released between the last convention and the current one.

While I still have pondering to do (mostly, the exact wording), I want these awards to reflect the VS aesthetic.  So, plain Jane, super-crunchy, card based RPG supplements and similar fare won't even be recognized.
You'll probably want to start by nailing down how your awards will define what is/isn't OSR since that's often ambiguous.
