Yes, just like others of their ilk do the same crap in every fandom they invade. They're worse than locusts, because at least a locust can die and give back to the soil. They're like hematophagous parasites that destroy the host target before being passed to the next unlucky SOB near them.

Quote from: oggsmash on Today at 08:49:28 AMThis sounds like a terrible premise to me especially with a game system like D&D.  It can work with SW and if you are going for horror (meaning we expect some party members to die and be outmatched for most of the adventure) I can think of a few movies to inspire the effort.  Bubba-hotep and Late Phases are two movies where they have crippled and outmatched protagonists deal with a horrific threat that I would use for inspiration for such a thing.

I haven't seen Late Phases, and it's been a while since I've seen Bubba-hotep. I don't want this to be parody or a pity-party for the PCs. It should be a rousing, action-packed adventure of fighting with horrors. PCs may well die, but they're not helpless victims being picked off.

I'm thinking the PCs would be the equivalent of 7th to 9th level in the war, and still in the prime of their lives, since the Last War ended just four years ago. So they are afflicted with these disabilities from the war, but even so they could easily mop the floor with a party of 1st level PCs.

I don't have a close model, but the theme I am thinking of is misfits who are nonetheless powerful heroes, abandoned by the system. They have to take on this horror themselves, and save others targeted by the horror. Two inspirations that come to mind are the short-lived TV series "Alphas" along with "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors". Those both have an ensemble cast of misfits who have powers (of a sort) but also disabilities.

Also, it's not a close fit, but I've recently been re-reading the Miles Vorkosigan sci-fi books, which I love. Vorkosigan was disabled from birth with a fragile and weakly-growing skeleton, so he has dwarfism, uneven leg length, and easily-broken bones.

Quote from: oggsmash on Today at 08:49:28 AMI think their prosthetics are less important than the tone, the idea being they will all have to be very clever and all or most of them will die trying to solve the issue. For the legless vet a small wagon/cart pulled by a loyal and strong war dog would be my approach.

Yeah. It should be a tough and potentially lethal adventure, and they should need to cooperate well to get through it all alive.

However, a pulled cart feels medieval to me in tone, which would fit for a more medieval setting, but Eberron has a 19th century feel with trains and wandslingers and war engines and so forth.

Wait, can I be banned from RPGnet for being part of this forum? I use separate emails for both sites and have a different pfp and username, but the moderation over there is so strict that I hope they don't find me out.

The Site is predominantly libertarian or classical liberal, with a dash of Pundit's Masonic conspiracy and practice of the forbidden arts. :) Those of us of a traditionalist bent still qualify as to the Right of it in that regard, assuming we're still using the decrepit 'left/right' frame. :)

QuoteAlso, it looks like the character of Paul has to be played both as a young man and as someone with more seriousness later, which means the actor in this case is too young. The actors in the 1980s movie and in the mini-series look like better matches.

Dunno about Miniseries, but Kyle looked way way way too old. Paul starts his story as 15 y.o. And twinkish one, not some HS jock. Kyle was 25 and looked at least 30, nothing as it should.

Weird since they have de-aging technology to make him look younger.

Oh, they are playing "games".  Just not the one supposedly being played.

Quote from: Domina on April 17, 2024, 06:55:32 PMdamn that's a hell of a lot of words to say you're mad that other people's preferences aren't the same as yours

Greetings!

This directed at me?

Tell you what, it isn't about "you're being mad that other people's preferences aren't the same as yours." That is frankly, a gross oversimplification, and at the end of the day, missing the larger issue.

If the rainbow degenerates kept their mouth shut, and did their weird fucking games by themselves, that wouldn't be the problem. The problem comes when all of this weak, pussy degenerate BS is then adopted and embraced by others, who then start pumping it into books and adventures that normal people then are faced with, again, and again, and again. That degeneracy starts to corrupt the entire hobby.

If YOU like that BS, great! Knock yourself out, and dive into the cesspool deep!

Many other gamers in the hobby are sick of it, and such corrupting trends pushed by degenerate storygames does nothing but harm the hobby.

Other Games / Re: Custodes down along with G...

Greetings!

Yes, it is sad that Games Workshop is bending the knee and gulping down Woke bullshit. The Custodes were originally ALL MALE. Just like the Space Marines. It is bullshit that Games Workshop is lying to the fans, and retconning the lore.

Having said that, I always urge Warhammer 40K fans to abandon Games Workshop entirely. Don't give them money or patronize them in any way. I used to be a devoted fan and customer, playing Epic Warhammer 40K Space Marine. I invested thousands of dollars into this fucking company. That was over 20 years ago, when Games Workshop pulled the plug one day and just ended Epic Space Marine. I have never looked back since, and abandoned patronizing Games Workshop in any way. They are a terribly greedy, selfish, disrespectful company, and now they are also Woke, and retarded.

So, let them burn. Stop patronizing Games Workshop. Stop patronizing companies that hate you.

Instead, give your money to companies that respect you, respect the hobby, and don't hate you. There are many miniature and game companies out there that respect the hobby, respect their customers, and don't hate you.

Quote from: Eirikrautha on April 18, 2024, 04:19:02 PMWait, aren't you the guy who whines in every Vampire-adjacent thread about all the terrible things that White Wolf did to the lore and game?
Not in the way you think. I hate their IP (read Frank Trollman's critiques on thegamingden to see why) and I'm sick of their monopoly over urban fantasy. I'm glad they're bulldozing their lore and alienating their fans.

Quote from: Ratman_tf on April 18, 2024, 06:16:32 PMThere comes a time when you've retconned out the reason for the IPs popularity. And that's killing the golden goose to chase imaginary new customers who may or may not exist.

It doesn't help that many changes to IP nowadays are driven by political activism and not love of the settings or material. That's a recipe for preachy, not-fun fiction.
I hope companies keep doing this. I got sick of their IP monopolies long before the ESG activism reared its head. I want them to crash and burn so that new creations can flourish.

We're in this frustrating space where companies kill promising IPs or drive them into the ground, and unless copyright terms get reduced our only option is to make new IPs and hope the process doesn't repeat.
