I'm not sure how the scope of this compares to other histories, though this looks pretty freaking big.  I'm tempted to (and likely will) toss in the $15 for the ebook versions.

The group I'm in games every other week.  There have been issues with people not passing the word that they won't be making it, or at least not till just before game.  As a couple of us have good long drives before or after the game (45-60 min in my case) this got old fast.

So we have two games going, our normal game (currently 3.5 Rise of the Runelords), and a second game where every one has a 3.5 gestalt char so we can run a game with only three chars as opposed to our normal four no matter who doesn't show up to the DM's house.

I had the original orange cover version (might still, I haven't opened all the boxes from my last move) but I'm more looking at combining the genres via jumping between them.  The DL book was great, I just couldn't grok the system well enough at the time to try teaching it to others, and it I don't think it would give me quite the feel I'm looking for r/now.  

The western version of B/X I linked in the op has both historical and fantasy modes to it, so I figure that should help in the combining.  The first time I'd had the urge was while reading the Weird War II books for 3.0 as the idea of racing with nazi's to get to some kind of artifact/temple, and then getting tossed into a strange new world for your trouble...  it just amused me and made me want to play in a campaign like that.  As I haven't seen such a campaign from anyone else, I figure I just might have to create it myself.

I heard someone talking about a gaming group who rented an appt, and as I was living in a two bedroom appt at the time I found myself considering the idea.  

If you get 20+ people each chipping in, and get one person willing to clean up and pay bills in exchange for cheap rent, you could end up with a couple of good gaming rooms and a real kitchen for fixing chow.  

You would need a solid group of committed people to make it work, but the idea always appealed to me.

So if I started the game in one setting as far as char construction, should I warn the players that they are likely to be world hopping?

How hard would it likely be in a fantasy world to recharge energy weapons? Could tech just be another kind of magic assumming that the tech was sufficiently advanced?

Looks nifty, my group is using vtt's otherwise I might be up for some. Best of luck with the KS!

I jumped on the Swords & Wizardry kickstarter awhile ago and have enjoyed reading over it.  I've also been looking at Hulks & Horrors (sci-fi OD&D), and the Westwater Kickstarter (western B/X D&D) and I've been wondering about mixing them all together...  maybe having people from the one genre caught in a storm and finding themselves in the other...

Any thoughts on how the three rulesets might mesh/not-mesh? Thoughts on mixing the three genres?

It only happens when a player doesn't choose the option that would be meta-best for the pc, but instead chooses the option that the pc would want, even if that brings no mechanical advantage, or even causes mechanical disadvantages. Some times a character is a reflection of it's player, and that's fine. Some people want to take things a step further and create a character with it's own viewpoint/worldview/goals.

The above is of course imho, ymmv. :D

I guess for myself I see sandbox as a fully formed world that isn't going to wait for the PC's in order for things to happen. The PC's can work on plans of their own, but the world has a billion different plots/hooks/stories, most of which the players will never see due to them not paying attention to what/who is around them, or them being wrapped up in other things. The old D20 Star Wars ads indicating a single stormtrooper in a formation and asking "What's His Story? (It was something like that, I can't remember for sure)

Not sure if that makes sense or not, it's what showed up in my brain.

Oh I totally agree, and it's awesome that they are able to bring the prices down with this new material...  I'm just sad that (no matter how hard I try) :p I can't make myself believe that it's worth my spending the money no matter how awesome the deal is, otherwise I'd be in for two in a heartbeat.  I've gamed with mini's twice in the past 3 years, so deluding myself is harder then it would otherwise be. :)

DF's stuff always looks amazing, I don't have anyone to split an order of two sets with, and with my group using laptops and a vtt I can't really justify the cost.

I'd be all for a world book as well, the settings always had such awesome feeling ideas when I read through the books, I'm just not sure if I could teach/run that ruleset.

I'm rather a fan of Necromancer Games Crucible of Freya with it's extra info from the website downloads.

They are going to be re-releasing Wizards Amulet/Crucible of Freya/Tomb of Abysthor in one combined/updated volume, at this point I'm not sure if I want it for PF or S&W.
