This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It's easier to arrest people who obey the law.

Though since you brought up Cuties.  Isn't it bullshit that they exploit little girls just so they can say exploiting little girls is bad?  Am I the only getting whiplash by this lack of logic and common sense?  What is the next Netflix movie?  Puppy murder to show how puppy murder is bad?

Fuck. I'm going to regret this. Here I go.

No, everyone on social media has said this. The Babylon Bee did a mock article on killing puppies to show killing puppies is bad. It's a terrible argument because the film wasn't about trying to convince people that exploiting girls is bad. The film assumes the audience is already on board with that idea.

But everyone laser focuses on this because some people tried to use this argument about the message of the film and just muddied the whole discussion.

And this is why I wish an asteroid would hit the Earth and kill everyone.

You seem pretty focused on the death of the human race lately. Maybe you should write a manifesto.

Huh I didn’t realize the V. S. Junk was an insight from the d’Toc ... genius. Still I stand by the convergence of materialism, atheism, existence as priority over essence, and the triple wedding of these in the banality of Foucault.

Have you heard of James Lindsay? He along with Helen Pluckrose and Peter Bhogosian are the rascals involved in the academic papers hoaxes.
Linday goes pretty deep into Social Justice territory in order to understand and explain it.

The thing I don't like about such a structure is that it forces the players into a particular approach.  In a good RPG, the gamemaster presents the situation and the players decide what type of encounter it's going to be.  It might be a fight, social interaction, a chase, a stealth encounter, comedy relief, high drama and tragedy, whatever.  If the game is structured as you described, the approach is chosen for them, greatly limiting player agency and hence (for most players I know) limiting the fun.

Yep. I understand the need for structure in gaming, but it's possible to have too much structure, or to use a structure that doesn't fit what's happening in the game. I think the idea of beating the game into a specific type of storytellng scene is that.

Or maybe you get your truth from the gut?

At least don't get your truth from a talk show shill.

Ok, I hope he's ok. But between this, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Joe Biden, I'm wondering why there are so many people in government with one foot in the grave.

And it's cancelled.

Well, I am dissapointed. Despite it's flaws, the show had some really great moments, and I was hoping for a second season.

Then someone remembered the player had “advantage” on the check so the player rolled again and didn’t just succeed, they rolled a natural 20. Critical success!

No reasonable amount of static bonuses would have changed that outcome (they’d have needed to scrounge up +9 in conditional modifiers), but the reroll took it from ignominious death to a player describing just how they pulled off their amazing feat (as I habitually allow players who roll natural 20’s to do).

No static bonus could EVER compete with the endorphin rush of that. It was all the players were talking about afterwards. One of the players described it as a “saving throw vs. failure” and I found that description of it especially apt.

Yeah, I rarely hear people discuss how adv/disad increases the chances of rolling a crit or fumble. And having a re-roll can swing the result all the way from one to the other. While still keeping the numbers manageable.

I like re-roll mechanics for the reason you outlined.

That's not too far from how I feel about the usual assholes here. Welcome to the other side of theRPGsite's fourth wall.
To be fair, you mostly post the same way these days.
You're not going to get me to feel bad about calling out the assholes that support escalating violence against others for their beliefs.

Let me know when you get around to that.

Man, I got the impression that Eclipse Phase was a game about adventures in a transhumanist setting.
This writeup makes it sound like an RPG about fucking robots.

Yeah, Precognition in the Dune universe is a sword with a lot of edges.
Trying to determine something with prescience can hide it.
Trying to change the future can cause it to happen.
Only Leto II had any kind of mastery over the future, and that's because he was willing to sacrifice himself to ensure the Golden Path.
Paul? It just taunted him with visions of the future he dared not change because he couldn't stomach the alternatives.

Just make it a cool RPG ability that prescience gives you a re-roll or something minor like that, and leave the prognostications to the doomed main characters.

Insert joke about "reading the articles" here.

Cyberpunk 2020 while ignoring Cyberpunk Red Jumpstart or Cepheus Engine Clement Sector/Earth Sector.

Gotta go with this. I've got 2020 right now.

Though I've got a hankering to GM Mutant Chronicles lately.

Thanks! Seems normal around here.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm not laughing to be cruel. We've had some interesting conversations over here.
