This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Media & Inspiration / Re: Banned... an RPGnet cancellation brings me here
« on: September 26, 2020, 09:26:01 PM »
I have greatly enjoyed comments, thanks for certifying I am not crazy and those rpgnet forum(s) things are goofed up.
Welcome aboard!

And if you're here, you're probably nuts.

Our wee Mos Eisley is a free speech forum, so buckle up and know there's near zero moderation and that actually leads to better (and more entertaining discussions).

Also, please actively start threads about stuff that interests you!! There's a good chance that if it interests you, there's at least a handful of other posters interested in discussing it. Whenever you scan the main page and nothing jumps out to you, launch your own topic. New posters launching new topics is good stuff.

Heard of WoFun? Bought a bunch of AWI and ECW plexiglass 18mm. So, tabletop war games.
Please start a thread in the Other Games section about this!! And post pics too.

Always great to hear about new tabletop war game stuff.

It's a shame RPG.net is a madhouse and a cesspit these days
It's great for us!

The LOLZ must flow!

There is no joy in enjoying my first Lamb Korma in four fucking years.  I'm ready to go back to 'what is this and why is it swimming in grease' land, where I can at least sit and eat my mystery casseroles and my excellent and mostly cheap steak in peace and without sounding like darth vader's wimpy cousin.
I live in LA where I have the world's cuisine all around. I can walk to a dozen 4-star restaurants by wandering a mile or two. But I'd FAR rather cook something at home or go on a picnic than wear a face diaper surrounded by CoronaClowns larping they're in an ebola movie.

BTW, lamb korma is easy to make. Stupid easy if you get the sauce in a jar, with some jasmine rice (as Amazon delivers to the Dakota).

Pat, I don't think you're right about ActBlue simply because the media has been happy to report how much donation is going to Burn Loot Murder and its easy to see how much traffic is being aimed at their website, but the MSM never mentions the ActBlue connection, and then suddenly and magically BLAMMO, the Biden campaign reports MEGA-MILLIONS for a candidate who was far behind in fundraising for a year.

To me, something smells like shit and there is ZERO reason to trust any organization devoted to the destruction of America. The DNC is pushing their "remake America" agenda very loud and abundantly clear. "Burn the whole system down" is being touted by their voters and MSM surrogates.

Though it's funny you brought up Charity Navigator...an organization which exists because of how many big name non-profits were total scumbags stuffing their pockets. If Trump wins, it will be interesting to hear what the IRS has to say about BLM in a year or two. Of course, if Biden wins, I'm well aware no questions will ever be allowed.

However, I don't have the time to do a deep research into the financial shenanigans I suspect so I will not concede your point, but I won't argue against it either.

I want people to dispute what I'm saying, because that's one of the best ways to refine and develop my own beliefs.
And this is why Pat isn't a leftist, or a liberal, or whatever the communists are calling themselves now.

Plus he called us deplorable monsters a "wolfpack", so what's not to like?

I think it would be nice if everyone who posted in the last three pages conceded that the point Pat has been making
I think it would be nice if everyone who supports BLM gets deported.

When you find the genie's bottle, you can have your wish and I'll go next.

My idea was to have an All Blacks Lives Matter dedicated to help overthrow the evil Wallabies and Springboks who always try and oppress them and take their trophies away.
Finally, a charity worth supporting.

Somewhat off-topic: while I like the advantage/disadvantage mechanic in the abstract, I've grown to really hate the implementation of advantage/disadvantage in 5E.
What goes wrong in the implementation that you hate?

7
I do like Advantage/Disadvantage so I'm intrigued by some discussions around the "O5R", aka OSR blended with 5e.

What other 5e concepts are worth stealing?
What else from 5e works awesome at the table?

And has anyone improved upon the ADV/DISADV mechanics?

BTW, Venger Ass'Nasty Satanis was the first author I heard talking about O5R, but if anyone knows it the phrase pre-dates him, let me know. His excellent CHA'ALT setting is an example of what's intriguing me (and the description of Cha'alt as a Rifts/Gamma World setting is dead right).

This RBG situation is entirely the fault of her hubris. Nobody else.
She was severely ill during Obama's 2nd term. She could have stepped down, helped oversee the choice and nomination of her replacement. She would have spent her last days being lauded by law schools and the media as the Queen of the Law. Nope. She CHOOSE to spend her last days nodding off on the job and barely existing until the eventual occurred.

"Notorious RBG" now exists as a stark object lesson. If Trump somehow wins and keeps the Senate, then the old conservative supremes need to ride into their sunset and let younger, equally (or more) conservative judges take their seats.

Plus, the Democrats have already promised to expand the Supreme Court and pack the seats, so let's bring on civil war or submission.

Let's really see what's left in America's nutsack.

Other Games / Any fans of Deep Rock Galactic? AKA, the Squat FPS?
« on: September 19, 2020, 08:29:18 PM »
As a 40k squat fan, I'm drawn to anything with a tagline of "Danger. Darkness. Dwarves" with space midgets firing gatling guns.

Does it live up to the hype?

Would y'all agree Space:1999 (first season) was hard(ish) scifi?

Second season of Space:1999 had lots of mushroom, definitely went deep into space fantasy (which I do love).

You’re succumbing to another media narrative here though; that President Trump has anything to do with the ongoing lockdowns or that he can legally stop them.
Darth Cheney and Obama were happy to exercise questionable uses of executive power to circumvent what was generally understood as separation of powers, and Trump could have done the same.

I'm NOT a fan of the wild expansion of Executive branch powers that has occurred heavily during the 21st century because what can be used by one President can be expanded by the next and that's a losing game. But in the case of CoronaChan being used by the leftists to cripple America, that required Executive action to stop and now its too late. Small business shutdowns are heartbreaking and no surprise that consumer confidence levels are plummeting...and that could cost Trump his gig and cost us our nation. Manufactured crisis is the fast track to commie-town.

And yes, Gruesome Newsom owns the California lockdowns...much beloved by most of his voters. Same with the double idiocy inflicted by Garcetti, LA's moron mayor and London Breed of SanFranSicko.

BTW, the Shamdemic panic level was/is high in LA, but I escaped it easily by spending time in the neighboring beach towns in Ventura. However, there's been a real creepy turn as the election is heating up to seeing Ventura getting equally dumb as LA, and friends from other parts of the state reporting a steady uptick in fearmongering, especially as evidence against the sham keep mounting.

Trechriron is a flail snail!! Get him!
I’ve browsed this thread a couple of times, but haven’t really been paying close attention, but has anyone brought up “muh racial IQ” or stuff like “muh sOcIaL cOhEsIoN” in racially homogeneous countries? Or are we stretching the term “alt-right” to mean “anything vaguely ‘right wing’ (whatever that even means) that I disagree with”?
Alt-Right means anyone to the left of Mao.

As we're a free speech forum, there's been discussion on people's thoughts IQ & race and social cohesion. Personally, I'm always fascinated how the social cohesion seen in "racially" homogeneous countries doesn't extend over the border to the slightly different ethnic group of the same "race". AKA, Chinese and Mongolians are Asian, French and German are Europeans, and being of the same "race" hasn't done jack shit for harmony, so the homogeneous harmony concept drills down further to perhaps shared ethnicity, but probably shared culture.

Have you ever played "cowboys and indians"? Do you recognize that the history the game is based on is very fucked up? Can you still stomach the game while knowing its horrific roots?
Hell yeah! Great game with lots of fun memories of my little sister running around trying to scalp my friends wearing our mother's lipstick as warpaint. 20 years later she married an idiot who's half-Plains Indian. She should've scalped him instead.

And yes, the history is very fucked up...cuz that's how history OF EVERY COUNTRY is. The Natives did a whole lot of raping and murdering of Europeans and then got the brutally harsh lesson of what happens when your foe has technological superiority.

It's the exact lesson why I agree with those scientists who think Earth needs to STFU and stop sending random signals out to the galaxy with no idea who is listening because we're not even the Indians in that game.

Also, Orcs are NOT Native Americans. Orcs are black people. Everybody knows that!

The Twitter mob isn't consistent. They'll flip from "you can enjoy problematic things" to ignoring the transgressions of their favorites to suddenly trying to burn down their lives and unperson them from their careers. It barely can be measured or anticipated which of their random results shall occur, or for how long that particular stance will exist.

But I do enjoy WotC being tormented by exactly to whom they pandered. That's definitely been worth many a chuckle.

Of course, what's not funny at all is the mob's power and how we MAY (emphasis on MAY) see the mob's will become the policy of DriveThruRPG and Amazon, thus destroying the main commercial avenues for deplorable wrongthinkers.

There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.
In my experience, that doesn't apply to Pat.

He (or she, it's Pat!) is always fun to joust with because while Pat staunchly (or some say stubbornly) holds to his positions (as I do too), Pat always seems TO ME to be willing to look at other perspectives and evidence.
