Forbidden Lands does something like that iirc.  Like it's cousin Mutant: Year Zero, part of the game revolves around building and improving your home base.

I'd rather they reprint 3rd edition than make a new one.  I hated 4e Gurps in just about every way.  Way, way more complicated than I wanted and the artwork was an abortion.

Games were better back when we didn't know or care who the designers were much less their personal life details.

Maybe they are looking at how well Games Workshop does by just licensing out their rpg and boardgame ip's.   They could close down WotC and let somebody else do all the grunt work for these niche products.

I count my first real game as Panzerblitz and I got it when I was ten.  Avalon Hill was so influential to me that I bought Magic Realm before D&D because I never heard of this TSR company.

I had it, skimmed it, meh, sold it.  It sounded much better than it turned out.  Seemed really shallow to me.

Not to put you on the spot, as you mentioned you just skimmed it, but what part of the game play seemed shallow to you? What kind of games in that genre do you not find shallow? Asking because I have been eyeing this product for a while, but have not placed on order yet. Thanks

iirc, a lot of the game is dependent upon rolling up random elements and encounters.  The problem is that the random tables were quite short - like a d20 each and there wasn't very many of them.  Also, there weren't very many monsters or magic items listed in the game.  That's not a lot of randomness to keep a open world, sand box campaign going for very long. You're better off just using the AD&D 1e DMG.

The most obscure rpg I still own is High Fantasy published in 1981.  The system is kind of weird but it has my favorite solo module of all time in the back.  I recently found out that the author (Jeffrey Dillow who is some kind of scientist) has recently started publishing his own fantasy novels on Amazon.  It's pretty cool that he is still writing after taking like 30 years off.

The easiest solution is to send a list of things you'd like to sell to Noble Knight games.  They'll give you a price and free shipping to them.  I've sold to them several times with no issues.

I think the correct answer for me is B/X mechanics with my own house rules and inspiration from AD&D.  With that in mind, I just backed the Old-School Essentials: Advanced Fantasy kickstarter.

KCD is easily the best crpg I've ever played.  It is super hard at first, but once you figure out how to do things you get a real sense of accomplishment.  If you haven't gotten the dlc's, I highly recommend doing so.  They add a lot to the game.  The Woman's Lot dlc in particular is amazing.

I got blocked by multiple people on twitter for saying that I agree with the 1e stat modifiers by sex.  Of course I now see the error in my ways.  I now think they don't go nearly far enough.  The female maximum for strength should be applied equally to both sexes for nonhuman races.

Secrets of Blackmoor was very interesting and well worth the watch.
