This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

KotC 2 Kickstarter

Knights of the Chalice 2 is a party-based computer role-playing game with turn-based combat for Windows and Mac OS. Just like the first game, KotC 2 uses the OGL 3.5, the ruleset at the root of Dungeons and Dragons 3.5. The Kickstarter fundraising campaign for KotC 2, due to be launched on 26 May 2020 at 7 am US Central time (2 pm Paris time), will support the creation of future KotC 2 adventure modules.

The first KotC 2 adventure module, Augury of Chaos, and the KotC 2 module and campaign editor for Windows and Mac OS will be released to Kickstarter backers as soon as the campaign ends.

In KotC 2: Augury of Chaos, your Heroic Party confronts a group of Evil Fanatics allied with various Demons and Fiendish Dragons. Following the Kickstarter, the game is planned to be released on the developer's website, http://www.heroicfantasygames.com, and on Steam and GOG after a relatively short period dedicated to the improvement of the game.

The Kickstarter URL is https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1848628223/knights-of-the-chalice-2-revolutionise-old-school-crpgs and you can also find the link to the Kickstarter preview page at http://www.heroicfantasygames.com. A Reddit AMA session is planned at r/Games on 11 June from 8 am Central time (3 pm Paris time).

KotC 2 Features

    * Turn-based, party-based tactical combat similar to that found in the old Dark Sun Shattered Lands game made by SSI and in Troika's Temple of Elemental Evil.

    * User-friendly interface. Launch a charge, full-attack or coup-de-grace with a single click - the computer will automatically look for the best option available. Out of combat, move the party with a single click or by keeping the mouse button pushed. Also see the KotC 1 How to Play webpage for more information.

    * A well-developed emergent Artificial Intelligence. Enemies act as a group and support each other. They can use special actions like Grapple, Trip, Ready Versus Spell or Swallow Whole and tactics like taking a Five-Foot step before casting Maximised Fireball. They might use a Wind spell to dissipate the player's Acid Fog or Incendiary Cloud.

    * Omnipresent help files and clear in-game feedback (a feature also found in Temple of Elemental Evil) on the results of each dice roll, saving throw, attack roll, modifiers and so on.

    * More than 700 Spells and Psionic Powers (see the list of Wizard spells at heroicfantasygames.com). The game also features 22 Classes, 10 Races, 36 Subraces, 478 Feats, 41 Cleric Domains, 71 Weapon enchantments and 51 Armour and Shield enchantments.

    * With the right materials and sufficient gold and experience points, craft your own weapons and armour and apply enchantments like Vorpal, Life Stealing, Wounding, Swift, Dispelling or Flaming Burst (see the complete list at heroicfantasygames.com).

    * Multiple-choice dialogue options offering real choices and real in-game consequences to the player. Use your party's unique skills and consider your own preferences and playing style in order to resolve situations in the most suitable manner.

    * Enjoy a variety of engrossing puzzles and riddles. Use your intuition and logical thinking to decrypt mysterious coded messages. The game's cryptography interface, inspired by Broken Sword Shadow of the Templars, makes decoding a captivating activity. Do not worry about the difficulty of puzzles and riddles though, as the game frequently provides Hints designed to help you resolve this type of challenge.

    * KotC 2 Augury of Chaos allows you to create your level-1 characters and take them all the way to level 21 or so. There is no limit on character level.

    * Use the powerful integrated toolset to create new modules and campaigns easily. Easily swap monster tokens and sprites or create new ones. Create new monsters, new dialogues and new maps easily. The best modules may also generate an income stream for you.

    * Enjoy fast Saved-Game loading and saving and various game options designed to accelerate gameplay. Enjoy various convenience features, such as the Saved-Game preview image display, Tab key press to highlight objects that may be interacted with, or the Inventory Screen highlighting of spell scrolls that may be learnt by a character.

First Adventure Module: Augury of Chaos

Looking for treasure in the dangerous Sewers complex underneath the village of Finchbury, the party discovers a secret underground area. The characters soon find themselves embroiled in deadly conflict with a powerful group of evil worshippers, the dreaded Circle of the Black Rose.

Upcoming Adventure Modules

The Dark Arena: A rising wave of murders and kidnappings is threatening the land. With the city watchmen requisitioned to protect the borders, city folk are placing their last hopes on the Knights of the Chalice. Create your party of brave, yet inexperienced, heroes. Join the Guild of Adventurers and the Knights of the Chalice and rise through their ranks as the party is given missions of increasing import. Confront the reborn Slaver Lords and survive life as Gladiators in the sinister Arenas of the Dark Masters!

Forces of Chaos: The Forces of Evil have unleashed their armies against the civilised world. An army of orcs, trolls, giants, dragons and demons is threatening the Crimson Coast and beyond. Seek allies and magic weapons to repel the onslaught of your enemies. Disrupt their attacks and strike back at their strongholds. Will your stalwart party manage to secure support from the Dwarves, the Halflings, the Elves, the City States, the Black Circle and the Red Wizards of Serpentine?

Heart of Evil: The party's valiant efforts will come to naught should it fail to deliver a decisive blow against the Deities of Evil. Only your party of battle-hardened Heroes has any chance of recovering the required Artifacts of Divine Power hidden in long-forgotten temples. Retrieve the artifacts before the enemy does, or fight the enemy head-on for possession of the relics as the final confrontation looms. The fate of the world hangs in the balance!

Other Games / Baldurs Gate 3 trailer
« on: May 02, 2020, 03:48:26 PM »
Interesting video. For me it bordered on the horror-film genre, particularly the scene with the worms being shoved into the character's eyes. I hope the game will have the same epic feeling that BG 1 and BG 2 had. It sounds good to me that the game will feature turn-based combat, just like my game Knights of the Chalice 2 (please see the Kickstarter campaign to be launched on 26 May).

Hi all, thank you for posting and for your interest in the games!

Quote
it seems a bit odd that you are holding a Kickstarter when the sequel is apparently done. Why not just sell the game and the first module now?
Yes, I could do that, but it's probably better for me to use Kickstarter now to facilitate the creation of future adventure modules. It seems to me that the best way to get people interested in the KS is to offer the first module and the toolset as a reward to KS backers. That will also allow me to improve the first module before its official release. For more details, you could read the interview I had with RPG Codex some weeks ago, as they asked the same question and other things too.

Doom, I hope you'll be able to try the free demo on Steam. Thanks again, best regards! :)

Knights of the Chalice is a 2D RPG with turn-based combat for Windows. The game uses the OGL 3.5, the set of rules at the root of the Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 role-playing game from Wizards of the Coast. Create a party of four adventurers, explore the Crimson Coast of Mindrel and fight valiantly against the evil Council of the Slaver Lords, domineering Giants, fiendish Demons and scheming Dragons.

KotC has been available for a long time from the developer's website, http://www.heroicfantasygames.com, but it had not been available on Steam thus far. The game is scheduled to be launched on the Steam platform on 23 August 2019.

Features:

  • Turn-based, party-based tactical combat similar to that found in the old Dark Sun Shattered Lands game made by SSI and in Troika's Temple of Elemental Evil.

  • User-friendly interface. Launch a charge, full-attack or coup-de-grace with a single click - the computer will automatically look for the best option available.

  • Omnipresent help files and clear in-game feedback (a feature also found in Temple of Elemental Evil) on the results of each dice roll, saving throw, attack roll, modifiers, etc.

  • 175 magic spells, most of which were taken from, or inspired by, Wizard of the Coast's open game content. The list of spells is available from the developer's website.

  • Craft your own weapons and apply enchantments like Wounding, Speed, Flaming Burst and Keen. The lists of weapon enchantments and feats are in the developer's website.

  • Multiple-choice dialogue allowing you to resolve situations in unexpected ways.

  • A large campaign largely inspired by the classic Dungeons & Dragons modules Scourge of the Slave Lords and Against the Giants.

  • Enjoy collecting 100 Steam achievements designed to challenge the best tacticians.

  • Free Demo/Tutorial: this is a unique adventure. The Steam version of the free demo has 17 achievements.
