This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I generally agree with oggsmash here.

The label of "terrorist" is a meaningless binary that mostly just says who has the money and power in a conflict. The South African ANC were terrorists, and we supported them against the Apartheid regime. The mujahideen in Afghanistan were terrorists, and we supported them against the Soviets. The Nicaraguan Contras were terrorists, and we supported them against the Sandinistas. The Kurdish PKK are terrorists, and we supported them against Saddam Hussein.

I support freedom for the Palestinian people. I don't endorse Hamas, but I think the Palestinians are justified in violent resistance against Israeli oppression. Israel has been a constant aggressor against Palestine using military might for decades. Any time Palestinians fight back in any way, Israel cries that it's illegitimate and that the Palestinians must only use non-violence while they use American-made planes and missiles to blockade and encroach on the Palestinians.

I think we should stop spending billions to send weapons into that conflict.

I disagree.
I am not in doubt about who’s the terrorist side in this conflict.
Which one of the two frequently lets the other side know where they will attack, so that they can move civilians away? Israel does. Which one is frequently targeting civilians and actually using its own population as a shield? The Palestinians (repeated claims that this has been debunked never quite hold up. Hamas does have less populated areas where they can fire rockets but they generally choose not to)

Besides, people often make the argument of how Israel is better equipped, organized and supported. That did not have to be the case since Palestine has always had powerful allies in the immediate neighborhood, while Israel has typically been supported by America. Israel was immediately attacked from all sides following the declaration of the independent Israeli state, but they won. they organized themselves because they had to and they had the skills to do it. Israel has been better organized ever since.
So... asymmetric warfare is asymmetric? Got it.

I find it somewhat amusing with all of their social justice posturing that the admins and mods have posted a lament that one of the writers for Warhammer has passed away.

Now that is a game they should be banning discussion of and decrying every step of their miserable way, it’s honestly one of the rpgs that is the least PC and most easy to find “objectionable” material within. Aside from a few others I won’t go over.

Both 40k and Fantasy tend towards racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, and gory body horror themes in their writing, regardless of where an individual GM’s campaign might tend to turn.

How it doesn’t check off every single thing on their outrage lists I don’t really understand.

Maybe that’s part of the reason I love it.

And it still amazes me that Chris Parmas and his Green Ronin crew wrote 2E. And that it’s actually one of my favorite versions.

You can still like problematic things as long as you flagellate yourself afterwards.
Does it count if you flagellate yourself to enhance your enjoyment of those problematic things?

The tone of many of these images feels very off to me. That one in particular reminds me of Harry Potter. But a lot of the other images, the characters look like they are 'shining' too much (like it is a fun romp), rather than a dread adventure. The old Fabian Art was very simple and stylized, and might even look cartoony to modern gamers, but it got the vibe right, and it if there was any levity, it was more dark humor.

Way too bright. Ravenloft is dark. Shadowy.

And what the fuck is with the Christmas shit? It's RAVENLOFT.
Christmas can be quite horrific.

If photos of cards on electronic devices are sufficient proof of vaccination, then it will be fairly easy for the dishonest to fake it instead of take it.
You know, I'm pretty sure I've never seen anyone say that forging papers to escape Nazi Germany was dishonest. It's funny how that word only gets applied when someone disapproves of something.
So what other documents do you feel it's OK to forge? Is it OK to forge birth certificates or other proof of citizenship? How about faking travel credentials? Maybe bogus professional credentials are OK too?
When you sign up to a website, do you always read the terms & conditions before checking the box that says you read the terms & conditions?

And I don't see anyone in the news who says it's dishonest for immigrants to stay illegally in a country they entered illegally, which is a significantly higher level of moral turpitude than protecting your private health information.
There are some pieces of health information that are mandatory to report. Not all of it is guaranteed privacy, especially not when it involves certain communicable diseases and the vaccination against such.
We're not talking about people who are infected.
Do all of the people we are talking about have the cards to prove that?

I saw this the other day and thought it was a joke.  Nope, it's an Evil Hat game.

But... Evil Hat is the joke.

At this point, those who haven’t taken the vaccine are probably not planning in taking it any time soon, if at all. I believe everyone is, and should be entitled to choose. What worries me is the future restrictions that can be put in place particularly related to travel and entertainment. That in one way or another would force you to take the vaccine in order to go back to normal.

My FLGS, bless them, put up a status update today requiring the non-vaccinated to wear masks, while the vaccinated do not have to. That's their perogative, but I don't plan to patronize them. I hadn't planned on any kind of "getting back to normal" until the end of the year, so it's no huge letdown.
Will they require vaccination eventually? Dunno. I don't want to take any of these vaccines until they have full FDA approval and the government lifts the restrictions of the PREP act regarding these vaccines.

I think the aftermath is far more scary than the actual pandemic. Inflation already kicking in with very little signs of actual recovery at this particular moment. Almost certain there’s another multi trillion relief on the way which would do little for the country and worsen inflation, etc. I’m legit concerned for the future. Optimism alone won’t bring the economy back.

Yep. This isn't over. It's just beginning.

How would they enforce that?  Do they ask for your papers as you enter?  "yeah I caved and got it last week guys"

Gov. Inslee has laid the ground work for requiring proof of vaccination.

You mean "I got my final dose two weeks ago," right?

RPG relevance? Perhaps the media inspiration section would be better for this.

Hmmm... you are right. Is it possible to move a thread?
Pundit can, and so can mods. Just send them a message (or "report" your own post with a request to relocate it).

That aside, what you posted about is fairly interesting stuff.

White Wolf did a Street Fighter RPG way back. One of my players local has it I believe.

I really should find my copy and use it for a WoD adventure. Vampires and werewolves and mages but using the streetfighter rules..
So Darkstalkers then?

cringe  :o

Absolutely! I mean, by the time that kind of neckcloth was adopted historically, that kind of lute had been out of fashion for a couple of centuries.
And, have you ever tried playing a lute while dancing without a guitar-style shoulder strap?
And, lute shells are pretty thin - you're really risking damaging it if you're wearing that cut-down-rapier and having the pommel knock against the instrument.

(Also, the dance looks vaguely galliarde-like, which is probably outdated before that style of rapier hilt becomes popular, and was never really taken up as a folk tradition. Or is it supposed to be Irish step dancing?)
This post has amused me. More!

Just started watching Gen: Lock animated series, and there seems to be a lot in there that could be used in EP.

EDIT: I got to the part where one pilot edits her own personality to be more confident/aggressive to improve her combat performance. It has a few drawbacks. She also had the option to eliminate some traumatic memories but opted not to do so.

It's all bullshit. From top to bottom, there is so much going wrong with the whole situation.

Semper Fidelis,

SHARK
Or, one could say, the claims are all bullshit from top to bottom.

Ah, yes, the old "I have a feeling" standard of irrefutable proof...
How many court decisions would I have to cite to come to a standard you would accept?
